Question Induction question

Hi friends,

I have several questions:

1) I saw on the atkins website that his gum contains Xylitol, whcih is the same incredient in starbucks coffee... Does any of you know whether we're permitted that on induction.

2) Is indian chicken tikka allowed? I had some for lunch and now I'm not sure about the codiments.... did I sabotage myself...

3) Is seltzer water allowed???

4) do you know when would you stop craving for more food and when is ketosis supposed to kick in?

Many thanks.

Hi there,

Xylitol is a sugar alcohol, and has different effects on different people...it casues some to stall. Induction is best kept simple and its main purpose is to detox you of the carb cravings and get your body burning fat for fuel. Avoiding any non induction foods is important to get the best out of the two weeks, so I would hold off until you are past the two weeks.

Chicken tikka - not sure if it was made fresh or was pre-made? Either way if may well have had sugar in it. Again... not induction food. Don't worry though...just put it behind you and get back to strict induction.

Seltzer - being from NZ I'm not entirely sure what this is (other than a drink) but it really depends on the carb count. Plus if it has any artificial sweetner it is best left till after induction.

Induction is a pretty important time on the atkins regime, and it does make a huge difference if you can be really strict on sticking to it for the two weeks.

hope that helps
Lesley

Lesley,

Many thanks... I have one more question, if you have a moment to answer I would be so grateful. What's a typical food on indcution day. I fyou get hungry or crave more protien, can you have it? I seem to over eat my protiens..... I gained during the first three days of induction.
thanks again

hi again,

I'm unsure what plan you are on (LA weightloss??)

Induction is and Atkins term, and in a nutshell it is 20grms of carbs per day for two weeks. The carbs come pretty much all from green veggies (2-3 cups per day).

For the two weeks of induction you more or less eat meat veggies, cheese and can have sour cream, cream cheese and mayonnaise to flavour things. You don't have to worry about calories or fat on this plan (only later on when you are closer to goal)

If you want to follow that plan it is real important to get hold of the book (library or book store will have it) because ther are quite a few do's and don'ts to be aware of.

Cheers
Lesley

Lesley,

I'm trying to follow atkins at this time. I'm very close to my goal weight (8 lb left). I wanted to do atkins in the hope that it would reduce my hunger and help me lose the weight....

I have a feeling I should even watch calories on induction, despite what Atkins says... I do have the book, but I feel that something are not clear, or perhaps I dont want to see it... such as not eating as much protien as I want.

Thanks again.

Hi lama,

Don't worry about eating too much protein on induction...you would be hard pressed to do that. If you are eating protein with each main meal and then snacking on bits of meat/eggs etc, then that is exactly what Dr A had in mind for induction.

With only a few lbs left till goal it may not be as fast as you would hope, because our bodies naturally resist getting smaller than they ought to be.

I followed the induction plan to a T and lost 13 lbs in the two weeks, so it definitely works...trust Dr A, he knows his stuff
