Do you have to do and induction phase? Why is it important?

And, I've been on low carb diet for about a week, eating less than 30 carbs a day and I think I've gained a pound, maybe two. Is this right?

Induction is important because it will get your body used to burning fat for fuel, instead of carbs.
It is alo vital because it will help kill your appetite and cravings for sweets.
I would suggest you read Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution...it has lots more info in it, and will really help you understand how this WOE works.
Good luck to you

Hi Latsirk,

I agree with the PP - if you are planning to follow as specific LC eating plan (i.e. Atkins, South Beach, etc.) most all the plans have an induction-type phase. This is helpful on several levels: It helps your body to get in weight loss mode, it rids your body of cravings, and more.

As the PP suggested, if you find an eating plan that you want to follow, such at Atkins, I'd try to get a hold of the book and/or do some research on the website (such as Atkins.com).

As for your weight gain - I'd have to look at your menu to speak to it, but right off the bat I'd ask what the sources of your 30 carbs a day are at. Plus, beware of processed meats (lunch meats) as they can be loaded in sodium and work against your weight loss efforts. Finally, be sure you are drinking water to keep your body hydrated and flushed-clean of unwanted sodium.

Hope this helps - best of luck to you!
