Question Bread from scratch?

I have been looking at bread recipes but all of them call for this Atkins mix. I dont' have a problem with that except that my budget won't allow it! I got some Whey Protein and made something that vaguely resembled bread, but it was not very good. Can someone please invent a recipe to replace the Atkins mix? Thanks, Diana

Hi Dianamama,
There is a recipe on http://www.lowcarbeating.com in the recipes for a mix like Atkins. I have never tried it but the recipe says use it the same in breads and other recipes.

Don't fret about not having the Atkins Bake Mix...I made his protein bread w/ it and it was inedible! I haven't yet found a use for it...it's still in my pantry.

Smile Thanks to both of you...

I found the recipe and made the Atkins mix and made some inedible bread. I also found some other recipes on that link that I will try when I get the ingredients.. Part of my problem might be the protein powder I got. It is green. Gross tan bread is bad but gross green bread is worse! And it's NOT bread. I will keep trying.
Thanks again, Diana

Default bread

I tried making low carb bread - flax, gluten, bran, etc. It was horrible - awful taste and consistency of a sponge.
For my husband I have been getting Oroweat, Light 100% Whole Wheat Bread. Two slices have 18 carb and 7 fiber = 11 carbs. One slice then has 5 1/2 carbs. The slices are small. I would rather have half of one of those small slices of real bread (about 2 1/2 to 3 carbs)than a slice of that sponge stuff which has about 3 carbs.

Nopie, I just read a report on Oreowheat bread at the lowcarbluxury website. Go to the newsletter and click on advice lady. It seems that particular bread is not what you think it might be. Don't want to burst your bubble but it was an interesting article. Hope this helps.

There are a couple of recipes, right on the forum for bread and making your own bake mix.

Bread, etc.

Unhappy Mmmm Green

I bought Nature's Life brand Green-Whey Pro-96. High protein energy...natural vanilla flavor whey protein powder. Maybe I should have known better, but it sounds like even regular stuff can make nasty 'bread'.
Thanks so far for the attention and assistance.

Boy, I looked ALL over that site and didn't find anything at all about Orowheat bread. If you know something about it, please just tell us! What's wrong w/ it? Is it mis-labeled? Does it cause cancer in laboratory rats? What????

Made some home made bread the other day . It wasn't all that bad. It was a bit chewier than regular bread, but the consistency was otherwise ok. It made great croutons. I was also intending to turn it into breadcrumbs. I made toasts out of it and while it wasn't bad, I'm fussy. It wasn't quite up to my standards.

Still overall, I'd say it was a success.
