Default Laxative effect of Splenda?

A friend of mine and I may have overdone it on the chocolate peanut butter cup treats. We each had three cups last night (I make 6 cups per recipe), with noticeable laxative effects this morning. Anyone else had this happen with Splenda?

Peanut butter all alone has that affect on me. So it could have been either ingredient.

What were the other ingredients and how big were they? It could have been something else in the recipe.

I make two variations of the recipe, it has 1/3 c. of Splenda, 1 stick unsalted butter, 1 square baker's chocolate, 1 tbsp. heavy cream and either 1/4 c. peanut butter or 1/2 c. coconut stirred in. Each recipe makes six treats (they are yummy!), and we each had two coconut and one peanut butter. Maybe it was the butter? I don't think it was the peanut butter, because we only had one peanut butter cup each, which would have beein less than 1 tbsp. of peanut butter.

It's the butter. I've made those cups twice and had the same results. BTW you shouldn't eat several of those in combination with several LC tortillas...the results are explosive!

I found that out the hard way.

It may be the FILLER used in any of the powdered sweeteners that could aggravate intestinal problems. Maltodextrin is a fluffy white carb that they use to add bulk to artificial sweeteners, which makes them easier to measure and use. Maltodextrin is spun from highly refined corn starch or sometimes barley. If you have digestive problems with grains, this might be the culprit in addition to the ½ cup of butter that would be in 3 treats.

Just a thought,

Doreen
