Default Amonds

Hi, all. Did a search on this on ALC and didn't come up with what I needed.

Finished the carb up yesterday and today I've been hungry as you-know-what. Anyway, I've had 11g of carbs, 5g being an ounce of almonds. AFTER I ate the almonds I thought---dang! Maybe that wasn't a good idea!

Any thoughts????

Thank you.

i think almonds are pretty close to macadamia nuts. I keep some in the cupboard to stave off intense cravings. They are by no means part of my regular diet but they are nice for emergency use.

Okay---maybe I didn't screw things up too badly then. Whew. I was a bit worried that I ate them on the day following my carb up, which I thought should be as close to zero carbs as I could get. They did help with the intense hunger, though.

LOL.... I'm surprised anyone responded to my question! I noticed I spelled almonds "amonds." Hehe.. maybe people will read it just to find out what an "amond" is.

Thanks, Big Dog.

J, I read somewhere in one of Lyle's many postings that the zero carb idea to get back into ketosis isn't necessary. Do you believe otherwise?
Honestly kiddo, you sound like you are feeling funky. What are you going to change?

Yeah... I realize that it's probably not necessary to go nearly zero carbs, but I do seem to get in faster that way. The first week, it took me about 4 days! Last time I did VERY low carbs and got in by 3 days. A day longer in ketosis is good enough for me. LOL

As for what I'll do----dunno. I may be doing too much still?? Is there really such a thing? I don't train like west or trainerdan, but I do a REALLY hard workout for "me." I push hard and follow the BFL principles, though I use the CKD schedule for the most part now. When I try to get through my dance practices, I get pooped out pretty quick.

Hey, did you catch it in the book about having FRUIT before the depletion workout????? That just about blew my mind. I asked Lyle about it and he responded...with the affirmative! It's not a large quantity, but still....surprised me! Here I was working out on an empty stomach. Oh, and the mention on the other board about post w/o carbs not counting! Have you figured that one out yet? I'm not completely done with the book yet.

Thanks, Doug, for the concern, and the help. Much appreciated!

How's your diet and w/o's going these days??

The trainer that I work out with also recommends fruit prior to a workout.
I think that all this obsessing about fructose goes to the liver and glucose to the muscles is pretty much blah blah in terms of how it might affect a workout, one's glycogen level, general level of health, stamina, etc.
A lot of weightlifter types seem to get really caught up in attempting to manipulate their body chemistry.

Hi, Doug:

Lyle did explain it all to me about the fruit thing, and yes, he recommends that you have a small carb meal with fruit 2hrs prior to that last workout...so the liver shifts from that catabolic (ketogenic) state to an anabolic one. He also said you can have fruit on your carb up, but not tons of it because it will cause fat gain. I like bananas and strawberries, so guess what I'm having friday before MY workout?? LOL

He also says in the book to eat pretty much what you want during the carb up days, but does mention the glucose (sugar) for immediately following the depletion workout. I can handle Smarties after a workout, and Twizzlers are pretty tasty too.

How's life with you, Doug?? Didn't you say you were taking some time off CKD...how's that going??

J-
I changed over to a TKD, doing a 25g carb prior to working out. I'll actually be following some of my own advice beginning Thursday. I'm going to be out of town and at a location where I can't lift and probably can't eat lo-carb specifically. I'm taking a short break for about five days. I think it will be ok, as I've been training really hard. I'm finally breaking out of the rut I was in, due frankly to an incredible amount of effort.
I've certainly gained a strong respect for attain and maintain a high level of conditioning. It's a helluva lot of work.
