Default Weights 3x a week?

I just (barely) started a weight training program and I'm wondering if doing the entire (full body) workout 3x a week is correct?

The reason I ask is because I've seen several posts where someone mentions working out with weights "every other day".

I'm just not into trying to divide up my weight workout just yet...so I'm doing the entire thing 3x a week.

Should I be doing it every other day?

Thanks.

3x a week is just fine! Some people like to do every other day, and that's ok, too....just depends on what works for you. As you get more advanced and are lifting heavier, recovery can become an issue, so most (drug-free) bodybuilders just do a 3 or 4 day split.

For a beginner, 3x a week, full body, 3 sets of 8-12 reps, maybe 8-12 exercises total, keeping the training sessions to an hour or less.

BTW...I should mention (you probably know) that it's 3 non-consecutive days of lifting, giving yourself a recovery day inbetween.

Thanks for the confirmation and extra bit of information - I didn't realize that's why people who've been weight lifting for awhile were splitting things up (the recovery thing).

Much appreciated.

Now..if only I can get in there tonight!

lol

It really depends on how you're training.

Default How high do you like to count?

For me, it's a variety and habit thing. When I was going to the gym, I had to go every day or it didn't happen, so I alternated:

MWF upper body, TuTh lower, and then reverse the next week, "rest" on the weekends.

("Rest" because my weekends often involve very heavy lifting of real stuff, not weights.)

YMMV. When you get to where you want to do more exercises, you may want to shift your schedule around. Whatever happens, the right routine is one that works for your life and that will keep you going to the gym.
