Question is this possible?

My husband, who is an insulin-dependent diabetic who is very physically active at work went on this diet with me and tomorrow marks two weeks on Induction. His normal dose of insulin requires 4 injections a day. His blood sugar has been normal ever since going on the Atkins, can this be? He hasnt taken one injection.

Yep, it certainly can be! I'm not diabetic, but I've seen post from many here who have started to controll their diabetes through diet, or a combination of diet and a smaller amount of drugs. Have you or your husband read: Dr. Bernsteins Diabetic Solution? From what I hear it is a low-carb diabetic diet. My friends uncle got it on my recommendation, and he just loves it!

Because he is insulin dependent, please consult with his doctor and not take any advise from the people here. We are not medical experts. And....

In the book, Dr. Atkin's does say that some people who are diabetic can get their blood sugar under control by eating a low carb diet. So, when you do contact his doctor, make sure you mention the type of foods you've changed to and that you've been monitoring his blood sugar levels. Then, with your doctor, you and your husband can make an informed discision about how to proceed.

Isn't low carb great?!!

I agree, you and your husband should consult your doctor, if you haven't already. I have also read Dr. Bernstein's Diabetic Solution as I am insulin resistant. It's a great book, very informative and of course is written by a doctor who is Type I and has controlled his condition with a LC diet. Definitely worth a read.
