Default late night eating

I was wondering if anyone could let me know if eating late at night is acceptable or not. I know that in the world of carbs, it is something awful. I often get home late and go to bed soon after. Is a late meal something I should avoid? Thanks for your help. ASA

Hi!

I don't see why it would be a problem, as long as you're not going hungry at any time during the day, and as long as you're just eating enough to be satisfied, not stuffing yourself. If you're on your way to bed anyway, you might want to make it a light snack, not a heavy meal. (My mom used to say that eating too much before bed will give you nightmares. )

HTH!

Hey there Asa Phelps!
Nice to see ya! Welcome to the forum.
I really think this is a great question and one that I have struggled with and continue to struggle with. I've been all over the place trying to figure out the answer, then just today it was explained to me in a very simple way by a bodybuilding guru. Dr. Squats, better known as Frederick C. Hatfield, suggests that you feed your body for what it is going to do. Not feed it AFTER what it has done. When you go to sleep, your metabolic rate slows down considerable which kinda kills all the efforts you made all day to eat low carb.
What I am tryin' to do is eat MORE during the day. Every 2 to 3 hours, I'm putting something in my mouth. I'm even making dinner early, eating 1/2 then 1/2 w/ the family, just to keep it going. It takes a lot of effort, but the pay off is enormous.
I hope this helps, and good luck on your journey!
Peace,
Brenda

Hi!

I don't want to disagree with Brenda as what she says is sound but I lived in Spain for many years where people commonly eat their main meal as late as 11 o'clock at night...and very few of them are overweight. (There diet is a lot healthier than the average British/ American one however.)

I confess I am a late night eater as I can't get to sleep if my stomach doesn't have somethiong to work on. I find it best to eat something which will give my stomach plenty to work on but actually is of little nutritional value. I often eat celery or a big lump of cucumber. It works for me - you must find out what works for you - we are all individual and all different (thank the Lord).

All the best form Belarus.
Robert

Thanks everyone. It is a big help. I know that part of my weight problem is because I ate carbs late while in bed. At least this solves one mystery. Thank you, I appreciate it very much. You guys are great.
