Question What should I do

Ok I started a basic body opus style diet about 2 months ago. I have lost considerable weight and gained a large amount of muscle also. After 9 weeks now my morning temp has been going downhill. I think it was only like 96.1 this morning. So I want to take a break and let my thyroid come back online. Should I bulk up using an anabolic style diet where I pack the meat away and try to build muscle or should I just go back on carbs and eat how I feel. If I go on carbs will I gain more fat than I would using the anabolic diet approach. From what i have heard the anabolic diet builds muscle at a faster rate compared to a normal high carb diet. Building muscle will help upregulate thyroid faster will it not

Insulin is one the most important contributing factors to building muscle- a low carb diet (i.e. the 'Anabolic Diet') means low levels of insulin (present)... which is not good (for building muscle). However, if your only concern is getting your thyroid levels up to par... I don't see why the weekend carb-load hasn't helped with this problem. Anyways, if building muscle isn't your main priority at this point... you could give the Anabolic Diet a try to up-regulate your thyroid. If building muscle is a priority... utilize a higher carb diet to help with your thyroid/muscle mass gains.

I thought that the idea with the anabolic diet was that the increased fat intake boosts test levels and the carb spikes and weekend carb loading combined with increased calorie intake makes muscle gain faster than normal high carb diets.

-Yes, that's what the 'Anabolic Diet' was based on. However, Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale got his information from poorly cited references (including certain studies wherein animals were involved). I'm going to reiterate what Lyle McDonald said about this matter (I think I've posted this before): "Ultimately the question must be asked as to just how much new muscle can be synthesized during a carb-up of 24 to 48 hours. Even assuming zero muscle breakdown during the ketogenic week, the amount of new muscle synthesized is likely to be small. So while individuals may gain a small amount of muscle during a CKD [ala the 'Anabolic Diet'], it should not be expected or counted on."

One more thing if I'm already fat will it be necessary to increase calories alot to build some muscle or will maintenence suffice?

-Regardless of your weight/body-type... if you want to build muscle... *ideally*... you'll need to eat more calories (x18-20 your bodyweight) than you expend during the day. Fat gain is simply something you'll have to accept as a means of packing on some muscle.
