Question Is soy sauce ok for steaks or stirfrys?

Soy sauce does have some carbs i think?

I am doing a LC program where salt is ok, but too many carbs not.

Paul

Cool Best choice in Soy Sauce

Hi,
For your home cooking, shop around for Tamari "wheat free" soy sauce. You should find it in stores that cater to celiacs. It gives you a tremendous amount of flavour vs the other types. therefore you don't need as much. I put mine in a spray bottle.

Good Luck

Colin

PS "Tamari" is a type, not a brand. You can find it in BC under the Amano brand.

colinjn Thank you, I need to hear that because, I REALLY like the faux rice with the soy sauce. I just about lost it when i plugged soy sauce into fitday . I feel much much better knowing there is a better choice out there. I'll surely be looking for this.

I just got this from the atkins website but it says---

1.00 tbs Soy Sauce-

1.0 total carbs
0.1 g fiber
0.9 g net carbs
0.0 g fat
1.9 g protein
11.0 g calories

and...

1.00 tbs Soy Sauce Low Sodium

1.4 total carbs
0.1 g fiber
0.9 g net carbs
0.0 g fat
0.8 g protein
8.0 g calories

I guess by this the regular Soy Sauce is better for LC

Default More info than you need eh?

Here is a quote from another site:
True soya sauce, called shoyu, is made by fermenting soya beans with cracked roasted wheat, salt and water. Tamari is similar but slightly stronger and made without wheat (and so is gluten-free). Fermentation for shoyu and tamari takes about one year. Much of the soya sauce available in supermarkets is not true soya sauce but is made by chemical hydrolysis from defatted soya flour, caramel colouring, and corn syrup without any fermentation process.

Tamari -- A soy sauce made from soybeans, water and sea salt. It has a slightly stronger flavor than shoyu. Organic soybeans are commonly used and no MSG or artificial additives are added. It can be used in small amounts in stir fries, soups, dressings, sauces, and other dishes. Tamari can be found in most health food stores.
www.soyinfo.com

And here is a site with more than you really wanted to know about tamari:
http://www.organic.nl/reindex.html?prodinfo/19190.htm

I hear you saying "all I wanted was a little something on my cauliflower!"

Hope this helps

Colin
