I get mine from a health food store. The flax is in a huge bin that I take a couple scoops out of and put in a tupperware container.

Hi Chrissie,

First of all, welcome!

Have you had a good look around the rest of this wonderful site?
Check out the orange bar at the top of the screen - lots of useful info there - especially Low Carb Tips.
Also, if you go to Newbies' Questions, have a look at Hot Links - a "sticky" at the top. you'll find links to heaps of previous threads with loads and loads of interesting stuff.

Now, about the flax seeds. Did you know that they are called linseeds here in Oz? They are available in most supermarkets. Check the Health Food sections there. Pity you don't live in Brissie, I'd give you mine. I think they are repulsive. Can't quite understand that some folk claim to love them!
I've also seen TVP in the health Food sections of supermarkets.

Cheers, matey.

Found the flaxseed at the local GNC ( i know I know Rosebud lost of people hate it but I adore the hot "porridge" I make from it)
Still searching for the SF Davincis without having to order it from Sydney.. I looked at the website tehre but it didnt mention SF varieties

Anyways.. at Safeway today I found some REALLY nice SF lollies.. I chose the lemon-lime. the brand was Double D

Thumbs up

Hi Chrissie - I live in Sydney and so far you're the only person I've found on this site who doesn't live in the US?

I'm new to all this and I am finding it very hard to feel good about eating bacon and eggs all the time. It just feels so weird and well, greasy!!

I really miss eating cereal and bread and I've been hearing a lot about this FlaxOMeal, but I bet you can't buy it here?!

Have you found something similar/equivalent and what do you do with it.

Love to hear from you,

Laura

Hi Laura, welcome to the forum!

While I don't care for linseeds (called flax seeds overseas) myself, a lot of folk love them. You can buy linseeds in supermarkets or health food shops. If they are not ready ground, you can grind them in a coffee grinder.

This is the recipe I was given:
Take 3 tablespoons ground linseeds, add 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon butter and 1 teaspoon Splenda (or to taste). Add about 150 mL very hot, not quite boiling water. Then add about 50 mL cream. I also tried it with the boiling water, cream and Cottees chocolate diet topping. Still didn't care for it.

Make sure you store the ground linseeds in the fridge.

I occasionally use Country Life "Alpha Life" low carb bread. It's available in some supermarkets and health food shops. After subtracting fibre, it has 5.1g carbs per slice.

Check out the recipe forum here Laura. You'll find lots of breakfast ideas.

Cheers, matey.

It's Australian so you don't subtract the fibre.

Hi Meme,

Australian foods vary on whether or not fibre has been subtracted.

The Country Life Alpha Life bread has not had the fibre (1.9) subtracted from the total carb count (7).
The only way to know whether or not the fibre has been subtracted is to do the little sum. You just have to work it out from the nutrition panel. Carbs and protein have 4 cals/g, fat has 9 cals/g.
Adding the cals assuming fibre has been subtracted comes to a total of 60.3 cals - each slice only has 52 (it's actually 52.7 if you work it out).

So, I repeat, each slice of bread has 5.1g useable carbs.

Well this is straight from the horses mouth

Quote:
The Carb count on the 'Alpha Life' bread does not actually include the
fibre
count.

If you have any further queries, please don't hesitate to call the
bakery
and ask for Lesley. She will be able to assist you with your
questions.

So I repeat don't subtract the fibre.
