Thumbs down Artificial sweeteners are a no no for me!

I just had a huge realization! I was over reading some of the hot links and the one pertaining to artificial sweeteners caught my eye. They were talking about how you can have an insulin spike with using these sweeteners. Well, I started on Monday using a THIRD of a packet of Equal in my coffee and noticed yesterday that I was actually feeling HUNGRY at certain points during the day. This is week 2 for me and this hungry feeling did not hit me at all last week or over the weekend! It must be the sweet taste of the Equal!

I am going to definitely cut it out and see what happens over the next few days. Oh and wish me luck---I am weighing in officially tonight!

Could be.

Are you drinking decaf? Sometimes even the caffiene can cause insulin spikes. That is why Dr Atkin's says during induction to do without the caffiene.

Have you tried Splenda? It tastes great and it's not supposed to affect your insulin level. I've been using it for a couple of years. If you can't find it in stores in your area, you can order it off the internet. I don't have the web site address right now, but if you need it, I can find it for you.

Nikki, for some of us the brand of sweetener doesn't matter. It is the "sweet" taste that causes our bodies to go over board on insulin release. False sweet or not some of us are just a little more sensitive than others. Getting away from sweeteners altogether is usually best for a while. This gives our system a chance to regain some normal function instead of over reacting.

Agonycat,
That's really interesting. I've never heard that before. Thanks for the information.
I feel lucky that I'm not one of those people. I couldn't survive without my cup of coffee in the morning.
