Did you know that taking calcium/magnesium supplements ~ bedtime will help you sleep/get to sleep? Someone in my office told me that & it's certainly helped me over the last 2 months. Of course, our individual circumstances & stresses are the biggest factor in our insomnia

My GP has okayed an antihistamine ~ bedtime. I sought her ok because this might be a year-round sleep aid. It is generic NOVO-PHENIRAM $3 for 100 tablets in Vancouver BC. Caution: antihistamines should not be taken long term w/o your Dr's knowledge & agreement.

Red Angel, I'm sorry for your loss of your beloved Boppa. Grief sure has a way of stealing our sleep. Blessings, hope you sleep tonight.

Hope everyone has sweet dreams Ruth

hi RedAngel, and everybody,

Queen of Insomnia here, but mine unfortunately is due to chronic sleep disorder. Oh well, there are things you can do that are helpful.

Stress, even good stress can keep the brain active long past the point where your body is dying to be at rest. Excitement, anticipation, or upset, angry, unhappy ... and yes, sugar and caffeine can affect this. Generally it will correct itself in time .. .. try reducing the mental stimulation close to bedtime .. no kidding .. read a boring book, do crosswords, put on quiet "mood music". Gabbing on the phone with the best girlfriend over exciting topics, even surfing the net ... can keep the brain all fired up and turned on high.

Just saw Ruth's post .. yes, the calcium-magnesium will be helpful for restful sleep. An over-the-counter sleep aid can be helpful for occasional use (look for the generic name, diphenhydramine HCl) .. they're not habit forming, but they do make you really drowsy, and can have a hangover effect, so use with caution.. .. especially if you have something important planned the next day. They are safe, but you might want to discuss with your parents first though.

Try the cal-mag, and avoid the carbs, snacks and excitement close to bedtime.

Doreen

Unhappy What, no excitement close to Bedtime?

Doreen, you are *such* a party pooper!

Just kidding. No really, calcium/magnesium works for me, I take it just before bed. Watch out for the magnesium, though, it will solve any constipation probs you might have, and then some!

Also, don't watch any TV after 10:00 pm, especially news...have a hot bath instead.

Wuss, LOVE the wings and the new handle. You rock, girl!
