I would now like to complain about my weekend.
I'm in the army reserves, and we had a weekend training exercise in the field. If you want to see where we were, just go to mapquest and type in "HELL" - it should put the red star right in the middle of the CF training area in Meaford, Ontario.
- I had PMS and a fully automatic rifle. Bad combo.
- I didn't get ONE OUNCE of chocolate in my ration packs - most of them have a chocolate bar.
- I didn't get ONE WINK of sleep for a 48 hour period.
- We had to travel at least six miles through treacherous terrain carrying about 25 lbs of stuff, plus the rifle.
- We had to cross a swamp and we were in up to our thighs in cold water.
- I only got to fire off one round.
The ration packs are gross and they're almost nothing but carbs. The "main dish" portions are horrid - I managed to choke down the chicken a la king, but they're very highly preserved and salty. It's so devoid of nutrition that there's a rule that troops can't go more than five days living off them. But you have to eat them - you burn at least 5000 calories over the weekend between walking, running, carrying heavy stuff and being in a state of extreme anxiety for 48 straight hours.
So now I'm back and I had a hard time getting back into the swing of things. I had no food here and I was in too much pain to go to the store, so I ended up carbing out on what was left of my rations on Monday and Tuesday.
I'm off to the store now. Must... have... eggs...
Must... put... down... sugary bits...
