Question breakfast bars

i know this a big but i want to try them anyway. i am looking for any suggestions about the bars you buy in the grocery store (Luna, Balance, etc.) i have tried the high protein, low carb bars and i really think they are gross. i know bars are not part of the low carb woe, but i am wondering about these bars because even though they are high in carbs, they are also high in protein. does that make a difference?

and if i continue with only eating protein with vegis for my lunch and dinner i might be o.k.

Hi LisaK!

I'd forget about the bars if I were you. They just aren't worth the money and the havoc they can reek on your diet. Not to mention that most of them don't taste all that great anyway. Combining carbs with protein does slow down the absorbtion of the carbs by your body and the subsequent rise in your blood sugar, but the carbs still count in your daily allowance. If you're looking for different easy ideas for breakfast, try the Flax-O-Meal or some Atkins muffins...both are low in carbs and pretty tasty not to mention easy to grab and mix up.

I know most here avoid them, but I have to admit I indulge in one occasionally. I like the Atkins brand and there is one other but i can't remember what the brand name is. The thing I like about them is that just a few nibbles on one helps me when I just need a bit of texture and sometimes when my naughty sweet tooth acts up. (which isn't very often anymore) I also like to have one when I have to be to work by 6:00 and need something quik and filling. I think some people can tolerate them on occasion and others stall if they eat them. A box of 5 will last me 2 or 3 weeks, so for me its worth it.

Thank you for making me feel as though i am not alone in wanting to sometimes eat the bars. i have been doing this woe since january and i have yet to start incorporating bars or anything else besides eggs for breakfast. About a month ago i tried the low carb bars (2-4 g. per bar) and they were gross.

so i am going to try the high protein bars with average amounts of carbs (25 g). I figure if i keep my food intake to protein, cheese, nuts, and salads for the rest of the day - hopefully my carb count will stay pretty low.

last week i allowed myself a piece of whole wheat toast with almond butter for breakfast (2 times) and it did not affect my weight. actually i lost weight.
