Question Induction Questions, Etc.!

I'm new and have a ton of questions. I thought there was a forum for that, but I can't find it. Anyhow ...

- how many carbs are those of you who are doing induction allowing yourself?
- how many are you allowing yourself for those of you not in induction?

Curious mind wants to know!

The forum you are looking for is "Newbie Questions" and is a subforum under the "Introduction" forum which is the first group of forums in the list. Since this is clearly an Atkins' specific question, this is as good a place as any to place it - though you might ask it over there as well to see what people on the other plans are doing.

As for me - I figure that the guy that wrote the book knows a hell of a lot more about this than me. He has spent a career exploring all of these issue. While it's true that he doesn't know my body and its unique requirements, I have to at least give him the benefit of the doubt until my knowledge of my body improves enough for me to make informed decision that are not in keeping with his general recommendations. So, during Induction, I tried to keep my carb count between 15 and 20 grams. For the most part I was successful, but some days I was down to 10g and one a couple of occasions I edged just about 20g.

Now that I am off Induction, I am staying pretty close to those levels - 25g to 35g - since I have a LONG way to go and since my weight loss is none too stunning. Acceptable, but not stellar.

Once I begin BFL next week, I am going to go to about 50g of carbs and adjust from there.

While on induction I stuck pretty close to 20 carbs a day.

Since being on OWL I normally stay between 30-40 and losing at around .5 pound a week. Sometimes less.

Total pounds lost so far is around 48 in 11 months.

Induction allows for up to 20 carbs max and lasts for 2 weeks. I have increased my carbs VERY slowly, because I had a great amount to lose. Probably only added about 3 carbs a week for the first month after induction. I have stayed "around" 35 carbs since - I have been on this WOE since July 2001. Of course, some weeks I consume more, some weeks it's less (if I've slowed down to a creeping halt). Remember, it's a WOL, and to stick with it for any period of time you have to adjust, adjust, adjust and experiment, experiment, experiment. Your excess weight did not come on in a matter of weeks, and it won't come off in a matter of weeks. Slowly, but surely, the weight will come off.

Good luck

Anna

I follow Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution plan and so I never had an induction period. I stick with 30 grams of carb per day. Although, Dr. Bernstein says you should never go higher, I will probably try to increase my carb level once I reach my goal weight as long as it doesn't start making my blood sugars unstable again. If it does...oh, well. I can live with 30 grams of carb per day quite comfortably.
