Default Juice Fast

I was thinking about doing a week long juice fast just to clear my body of toxins and all that. I am in Phase 2 of South Beach so I can have fruit in my diet now. I would not use pineapple or other sugary fruits and I would also include vegetable juice. I was wondering what you all think about this or if any of you have done it? I am already at my goal weight so I am not doing this for weight loss. I have heard it is good to do once a year to clease your system. Just wondering. Thanks

I have done it and it is wonderful.
3 days is a good start for first timer.
Try and pick up the juice man book....
you have to be careful how you mix the fruit and veg.
Do some reading for sure.

by the way after the second day you will feel great.Stay close to home ...if you can....cleans you out.

Be warned, you will lose a lot of muscle mass. There is mountains of information showing fasting such as this is unhealthy if not dangerous and possibly deadly.

I have never read that fasting is dangerous as long as you know what you are doing.
Some cultures have been fasting for eons for various reasons, health, religion, meditation and lots of others.
You must read up on fasting and make sure you know what you are doing.
Fasting is just not that easy.
Talk to some people that have had good results while fasting,or
better than that talk to the monks.

Good luck

"Knowing what you are doing"...sorry, not meaning to be offensive, but no matter who you are juice fasting is a bad thing.
Because of the lack of protien, your body feeds off your muscle. In several studies regular juice fasting has resulted in permanently lowered iq test results.

"Jay the Juice Man" wouldn't happen to have something to SELL, by chance, would he?

Which "monks" do you mean?

I've met several monks in my lifetime, even talked to them about how they eat a few times. All of them were in poor physical health, and looked much older than they actually were.

NOTE:
I am not trying to put down any religious groups. Also there is a big difference between the way some groups "fast", and juice fasting. Talk to any emergency room doctor and you will hear of several cases of people doing foolish things like juice fasting, and coming in to the emergency room with heart failure, blood clots, fainting, and kidney and liver damage, among other serious things.

BTW why is this post in the south beach section? It has nothing to do with the south beach woe, nor is it anything to do with low carbing in any sense whatsoever.

If you're concerned about muscle loss, then I would consider doing a water fast instead of a juice fast. A water fast allows you to go into ketosis which gives your body a chance to burn fat rather than muscle tissue for energy. Also digestion (even on juice) puts a lot of stress on the body. Water fasting gives your body a chance to devote a lot of energy into repairs and expelling toxins. I've done quite a bit of reading into juice fasting vs water fasting and I think the latter is healthier. I have done 3 day of water fasting and felt great by the end of it.

Yes i agree the water is better. The first time i was really hungry though,Juice is a bit easier.
I think after the second day is when you start to feel super good, like refreshed and clean.I also always have a huge burst in energy.

Yes Jay is selling something but who isn't.
I keep my mind open for knowlege and options.I don't think one diet (expert)
is any more right or wrong than the next.Infact i think they are all right to a certain extent.

just my thinking

Thanks for all the feedback. My rooommate has done a juice fast and had pretty good results with it. Her mom is a yoga instructor and also knows a lot about it. The reason this was posted in the South Beach section is because I was wondering if this would negatively affect my south beach way of eating at all if I stuck to the allowed fruits. I don't really see how only like a 7-10 day juice fast coud be that dangerous. I understand that fasting for long periods of time is pretty dangerous but I didn't realize short periods of time are very dangerous. I will take that into consideration.

Ok so now i have the bug for the juice fast too.
I am also going to do it this week.
Let me know how you are doing sbd4me.!!

My fav drinks are,

Apple and cantalope
Carrot cellery and beet.

If you dont know you always have to juice a part of a apple or carrot in every drink.Be careful if you dont know this,

Another thing if jucieing beets.....if you juice more than 1/2 beet a day you can get lock-jaw.
I have Jay the juciemans book and he really lays it all out for you.
Make sure you do some reserch before starting

Cheers

Serre, can you post specifics on your water fast? I'm intersted in trying this.
Thanks,
