Question Calorie question

OK so I started the Atkins diet just over a week ago. After the first two days I have been feeling great.
My question is about calories. I am at 250 so I should be taking in between 2500 and 3000 a day. I just wanted to throw out what I eat a day and see if everyone things that’s enough.
Breakfast 3 strips of bacon 4 eggs
Lunch Pork (chop or steak)
Dinner Stake
And some time throughout the day about a cup and a half of lettuce.

I am not much on cooking and like foods that are kinds simple. The portions on the meat are probably about 10 to 12 ounces. Is that enough? And if I need more is more meat and eggs OK?
Also this might be the wrong place for this question but I started weight lifting again, used to lift a LOT and loved to do it. Dose any one have any experience weight training while on a restricted carb diet?

Thanks for the time

Your are correct..U need to eat at least 2500 cals a day. If U are only eating lettuce for carbs I would suggest adding a bit more. Maybe a cup of green beans, or califlower. There are a lot of low-carb veggie choices U can choose from. I workout a lot but not into a lot of weight lifting yet. I have heard it suggested to not do any weight training the 1st few weeks of low-carbing to allow your body to adjust. Im sure someone else will post to help U with that.

Thanks for the reply another question I should have ask is, do you calculate the calorie amount based on what you weigh? Or what you should weigh?
I will try popping in some more veggies, I have never been a big fan but I can make the effort.
I am really new to this sight but I am finding that, as a group there is TONS of info here.

Mike, I couldn't lift much the first week, but since then, no problem. Just take your supplements, because with so much steak and eggs and just lettuce, you are not getting nearly the vitamins you need. And if you are working out, you need to drink even more water. You will cramp up less and have better endurance.

Looks like you and I are in the same weight class with a similar goal. I'm down 27 lbs since Jan 20. This is an easy way to live and feel better. And remember, if you are lifting, the actual weight loss will be less than the fat loss, as you build up muscle.

Good luck!

Smile Hello

While Atkins "supposedly" is not a track calories WOE, some of us use FITDAY.COM to track our eating. It will help calculate the number of calories you are ingesting. It is free...and is great.

You can also track you exercise there as well.

Welcome to the board.

Dee

Definitely add more veggies - you are getting about half of what you should and lean towards the other allowed veggies.

As for whether the calories should be based on what you weigh or what you want to weigh - that is a topic of some debate.

Personally, I think it should be based on lean body mass according to the following guideline:

400 kcal + 10 kcal per pound of lean mass + 2 kcal per pound of fat.

Others say that it should be 10x to12x of your total current weight.

Both are just guidelines. The key is to not undereat (and I am very much guilty of that and it may well be slowing my weight loss).

Delta,

Check out the Exercise forum here. It's a great resource about weight training, cardio, and resistance training on this woe. I've gained a lot of information from it.

Thank you so much Dee for posting that website. I have been going crazy trying to find something to make sure that I'm not overdoing the combined carbs/cals/fat/protein and this site is wonderful! I can plan my meals for the next week without a problem and track how I'm doing. I can throw my paper notes away!

I recommend everyone check this site out and I think you'll find alot of reassurance of your progress here.
