Default Fat and calorie counting

I know during induction on the Atkins diet we should only be eating 20g of Carbs a day, but what about the Calorie content of food. Some creams have 1g of carbs but a whopping 570 calories, and 60g grams of fat per 100ml. Should us newbies be worrying about counting calories, and this much fat in a product? Or should we aim to have more sensible creams? Is there a real difference?

I know Dr Atkins says eat the fats (good fats), but can you have too much ... like in this particular cream??

Thanks, Paul

Unhappy Caloies Argh!!!

Paul,

A quick answer to your post but probably not the best. Some of the senior members on this site should pick up your post soon and reply with some very sage advice. They are pretty good girls (sorry, not many blokes about on this site) .

My two-pence worth is this: don’t worry about the calorie/fat intake during the first phase. Get your body used to a new way of life (ie without carbs) and let things sort themselves out later. Trust me on this one; your body will get over the carb withdrawal after 2-3 weeks and then, and only then , start thinking about calorie counts and types of fats. One thing at a time old chum!

Yours aye, Scotsman
