Default What stimulates your insulin????

I am willing to do food favors for anyone..... On an empty stomach I measure my blood sugar. Then I eat a food then measure my blood sugar again.

I is amazing to see what makes the insulin rise and by how much. This is related to glycemic index. What are your curious about..???? The only thing I won't try for you is cigarettes!!! But tomorrow morning I will try the Stevia, since some have suggested that the fake sugar acts like a real sugar.... I will keep you all posted.

thanks for that posting
I will start Sunday morning.... I will show blood sugar when I first get up. I do not eat after 7pm so hopefully the bs will be good and low. I will have a coffee with buzz with no sweetner.....your bs goes up as soon as the juices flow in your mouth. It takes about 2 minutes to see the bs rise. I will then drink the buzz coffee with sweetner and do the same. This will help us determine if the caffeine and the sweetner have an effect on insulin..... Watch for the results.....Elly

Goodmorning: As indicated, I will post results...
Bad news for me:
I like my coffee/sweetner and cream....

Woke up at 7am.... BS was 6.1mmol/l
Took a Tylenol 1 (has caffeine and codeine) and went back to bed. Had a very sore throat.

Got up at 8am and BS was 5.6mmol (caffeine or codeine) stimulated insulin release!!!

Made a coffee with cream(whipping), sweetner and it was buzz coffee.....

15 minutes later Blood Sugar was 3.3mmol!!!!!!!!!

That's it... I will disect it tomorrow.... Wasn't thinking straight today.... Off to church but will report on lunch.

Cool Hey Cool!

I wouldn't mind knowing the effects after drinking a can of Diet Coke!

If you have time!

wow, misselly--great research! I feel for ya, though--I assume you are sticking yourself with every reading. You'll look like a pincushion in a week!

Dave, her results from any particular substance might not be your results, remember. We truly are all physiologically different in the details, despite that most of us are likely hyperinsulinemic to some extent.

Dave, if you follow the link in my above post, it will take you to instructions on how to do it yourself.

dave... i will try a diet coke when my blood sugar stabalizes. I left church and went to our local Swiss Chalet for chicken and salad. Had a decaf coffee with lunch. 20 minutes after lunch my BS was 6.2, which is to be expected. I took 20 minutes later and was at 5.9. This is a good lunch. I will have a diet coke at 4 pm and will give you the results. Afer a rich protein meal we expect high levels of amino acids. Since high levels of amino acids can also stimulate insulin release, i want to ascertain that my meals are not too protein rich. Our ultimate goal is to discourage high levels of insulin release and so far so good.... except the morning coffee of course.....

Miss Elly -- You kill me! What a hoot! Thanks for the laugh.

Here's the one that I'm most curious about: can you raise your insulin by simply thinking about sugar? What if you looked very intently at pictures of cakes and cookies and let your imagination go wild fantasizing about eating all your favorite deserts. How about if you could smell them? Buy chocolate chip cookies (or whatever your favorite is) and inhale for twenty minutes.

I know I start salivating at the thought of sweets. How far can the mind/body connection go?

Allison

Default The Can of Diet Coke::::

Dave.... my bs all afternoon was in the 5.7 range. At the end of the first quarter, I made cheese chips and had a diet coke without caffeine..... No change at all in BS. Will report another time on Diet Coke with caffeine....

It will be interesting to see the results of caffeinated diet coke.

Oh, no. I am not laughing at you. Maybe that came out all wrong. I just thought it was funny when I read your first post that you're offering strangers experimentation on your own body with any food they suggest. I was just laughing at the idea of offering yourself up as a lab rat for anything but tabacco. I guess I have a weird sense of humor.

I'm all for awareness of what works and what doesn't. When I read Karen's post a couple days ago about how to conduct your own research I was fascinated by the idea. I'm just a coward about sticking my fingers.

Please don't be offended. I just stuck my foot in my mouth. I didn't mean to insult you. My deepest apologies.

Please keep us posted on the results of your research. It will be useful for all of us to know the results.

Allison

Default Buzz VS No Buzz

Well woke up to a BS of 5.7.... That's a good start to the day. I am just getting my coffee ready and will report later what the first cup of the day did... Today I am having no buzz with sweetner and cream..... Remember yesterday the buzz coffee with sweetner and cream took me down to 3.3 right away. This will be interesting for me.... I will keep you posted.
