Default Iron deficiency

I got some blood test results from my GP today, the good news is that my cholesterol is 4.8 which he seemed pleased with, but he was very concerned at my low iron levels.
I have got to take 200mg iron 3 times a day and the pills he has prescribed are sugar coated, anyone have any idea how many carbs 3 little pills will cost me and are sugar free versions available?
I've been taking Atkins basic 3 which I now realise doesn't contain iron, previously I've used centrium which does, although my GP seemed surprised that my levels could have got so low when my diet is not deficient in meat!!! and green veg.
I'm not particularly worried but thought I'd post this in case anyone else has been under the same misapprehension about Atkins basic 3 containing iron.

Boots do a multivit with iron that you might want to try for a while to see if it helps.

I really wouldn't be concerned about the coating on the iron pills. I believe they need to be coated so they won't dissolve on the way down like a "bare" tablet would. (But I'm not sure about that.)

You need the iron more than you need to avoid less than 1 gr. of sugar daily. So do what your doctor says. I wonder if he'll be doing any other tests to find out why you are anemic?

Hope things get better soon.
