Question What's my pants size?

As most women do (as least I do, anyway) I buy jeans at several different stores. Right now I can wear both 14 jeans from Gap and 16 jeans from Old Navy. Is there any way to decide just what size you really are? I just bought new ones and was a little disapointed b/c they were a size bigger than I was wearing.

I always wear a size smaller at American Eagle. I've read articles that say some stores purposely label the size of clothes a little smaller than they actually are so women will get excited and buy them. Damn those smart marketers...

Hopefully, once I get skinnier, I can wear my pants "normally." According to my BF, "normal" means below the belly button...LOL. He's seen too many skinny clebs on tv! And I've always wore mine above it...which explains why I have a "pouch of fat" below my BB.

its vanity sizing and alot of stores do it (most of them i have noticed) you can check a pattern for your mesurements I wear a size 12 (walmart brands) but when i make clothes i have to make at least a 16!

edit: "What is in a Size?" try that link they also have a link from there about vanity sizing

I know its frustrating. Even at the same stores it varies. Like at old navy I"m a size 6 in jeans and I can almost wear a 2 in shorts. At Express I'm like an 8 in thier jeans but at NY&Co I bought a size 2 dress. I put myself at 4/6. I think my problem is my waist is small but I have thicker legs and a big butt, sucks.

Holy smokes.... I followed that link and looked at what size I "really am" (whatever that means). According to that page I should be a size 12/13 . Interesting that the largest size pants in my closet is are a 9 (too big) and I have mostly 6s and 7s (suit pants and dresses) with one 5 (jeans). My jackets are bigger <blush> (have to accomodate....)

Talk about vanity sizing!!! That's terrible!

Take care all, Julie

I think vanity sizing sucks. I am currently in a modern-day 16. I have a pair of pants in my closet that are size 16 from 16 years ago. I'm going to need to lose probably two more clothing sizes before they fit, so I'll probably be wearing a size 12 and a size 16 at the same time. Isn't that silly?

I looked at the chart and according to my waist I am an 11 and according to my hips, I am a 7. I have jeans that are anywhere from 6-9 that I wear.

Although easier for sure for us guys, I have to admit that our sizes vary indeed from store to store as well. I can easily wear a 33 waist from the Gap but I may somewhere else and I have problems fitting in a 34. Then I can get a pair or CK and I can actually get in to a 32!!! So we're all over the board. What a pain.
