I looked at your profile and am assuming the only exercise you are getting is chasing FOUR kids! ( ha ha)
So I calculated your BMR around 1654 cals. Of course this is resting BMR and can be adjusted x 1.4 if you exercise daily.
assuming that you are following recommended macronutrients
65% fat 35% protein 5% carbs your maximuim protein intake should 144 grams. 144 grams X 4 calories per gram = 578 calories from protien a day. If adjusted by 1.4 your target cals daily would be 1968 that would be 688 protein cals of 172 grams a day.

It doesn't have to be meat. Eggs, cottage cheese, Whey protein shakes (low carb ones) Optimuim Nutrition I like.
There are plenty of good high protein foods out there.

Atkins books do not specify how much protein to eat. They just give the list of foods and say "eat enough to be satisfied", meaning NOT stuff yourself.

Protein Power Plan gives a formula to calculate minimum protein intake, but does not state a maximum.

So there are several ways to calculate it, IF you need to keep track of it. Atkins doesn't think you do.

Default Protein Trouble for me

Hi,
I had to up my protein intake to 155g per day - I was only getting around 90-100 as I really can't eat a lot of meat.

My LBM is 155lbs and once I cranked up the protein, my headaches and nausea went away. (this was last week - also lost 4lbs last week)

Your body can't absorb more than about 40-45g protein at one time. I spread my intake out as much as I can during the day.

I get about 65g a day from Whey Protein shakes. (like Jag says).

I did some research and found about 1gP per 1lb LBM is about right. Excess protein is just flushed from the system as your body can not store it.

I'm eating between 25-30g carbs a day and around 1800-2000 calories a day as well. (just for comparison purposes)

Tom.
