Talking Chat Room

Does anyone use the chat room, if so, is there a scheduled time?

Hi Christine,

We have organised a couple of chats recently, but it may have wore off. About 4 participants usually show up. Any member who wants to organize a time, is quite welcome to. From my experience, it better be within a time zone group. Maybe our fault was trying to accomodate both EST and PST which may have made it too early for some, and too late for others. Practice makes perfect.

But the chat room itself seem to be working great.

Chrissy - aside from regular chat times, I always check the chat room status at the bottom of the main page to see if anyone is *sitting* in there.

I will often sign onto the chat room while I am reading posts (on days when I would have the time to chat) and check back periodically to see if anyone has noticed me there.

Perhaps if more of us used this approach we would have more opportunities for spontaneous chats.

I've tried this too, but usually end up being lonely. Good idea though, perhaps it only takes a couple to get things started.

I wonder how many folks look at the bottom on the main page??

I know I usually start at the bottom and work up, just so I don't miss anything new in the Our Website section.

In addition to looking at the bottom, remember the top as well Right below the online count like:

Currently online: X users

If there's anyone in the chat room, you'll see:

Currently chatting: X users

If there's no one, it won't show up.

Question Hey Wa'il

This is just a suggestion and I would love to hear from all the other members on their suggestions as well.

I find scheduling a set time say one day a week, 2 different times during that day works for most people, this way everyone can participate. A Saturday or a Sunday is a good day to have a chat, since more folks are off work that day, but then again Wednesdays may work too?

Here is an Example..........

CHAT EVERY SATURDAY MORNING!
Saturdays
9:00 am - 11:00 am Central Time

North America Times:
7am Pacific,
8am Mountain,
9am Central,
10am Eastern
11am Atlantic

United Kingdom 3pm
Sweden 4pm
Thailand 10pm
Australia (Sydney) Sunday 2am
New Zealand Sunday 4am
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT PARTY!
Saturday
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm Central Time
North America Time:
6pm Pacific,
7pm Mountain,
8pm Central,
9pm Eastern,
10pm Atlantic
United Kingdom Sunday 2am
Sweden Sunday 3am
Thailand Sunday 9am
Sydney Australia Sunday 1pm
New Zealand Sunday 3pm
Check your time zones here,
http://www.timezoneconverter.com/
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Also guest speakers, folks who have met their goal, short quizzes on Low Carb would make a great weekly chat. As well, to post it in big letters on the main page and remind folks by email, would get more people using the chat room.

Again this is just an idea!

Hi Chrissy,

Nice to meet you. I like your idea of the Saturday chats. And I think the morning and again in the evening is a great idea. Gives a better opportunity for folks to make it.

Sharon and LCSponge....great hint. Think I'll try it too.

Judi, this was discussed in another thread recently, here in this very Comments forum ... check it out here. There is in fact an audio signal, which you can set to sound when another member has entered the chat room. I explained how to set it up in the other post. Of course, you need to have the chat room open for this to work

Hi Island Girl -sorry to have missed you in the chat room.

I don't get the *ding* - I have no sound card - it's a long story - but this 'cadillac' I post from is used mostly to do very large book layouts. I can't stand the noise that Windows makes when it starts up, so this custom jobbie has no sound card.

In retrospect, I realize I may have made an error. Especially now that it is time to upgrade dh's machine and normally he gets mine and I get new.... but he's lost without the card - and so I don't get a new machine That'll learn me.

If you buy one, I promise you it's easy to install. Like 3-5 screws. You just have to watch out for static, but it's really not that big of a deal.

What I've started doing is this:

When I'm in the Forum and I have the time and inclination to chat I log into the chat room for the duration of the time I'm here. I really do enjoy the opportunity to say hi! so if you are online and notice that I'm in the chatroom, please come visit.....even if only for a few minutes!

Lightbulb ha, no need for a sound card, usually....

... and never mind the 3 to 5 screws, it's the drivers and setup that'll kill ya!!

Honestly, LCSponge, Start/Settings/Control Panel/Sounds to see if your Sounds are enabled, "install" the Volume control (Add/Remove Programs...) and you're off to the races with the dinky little speaker all PC boards are equipped with so you can be PINGed if ya wanna be... it comes with a handy dandy little Mute function I utilize whenever I don't want to hear the dreadful startup (etc etc ad nauseum) Windows sounds...

PS: thanks, Do, I'll go browse the thread
