Lightbulb Bacon Friend or Foe?

Hi All! I am trying to figure out if I can eat bacon or I can't eat bacon. I know all the bacon I see in the store is sugar cured. I LOVE BACON and I would really like to add it to my menus. I see so many people putting it down in their menus. Do you get some special kind? If you do where do you get it?
Thanks for your help!

Kathy

I LOVE bacon! Would never have survived w/out it, lol. I buy precooked stuff from Kroger (cuz I'm lazy) but also get some Oscar Mayer Sugar Free for the weekends. Tasty

3 slices a day for breakfast, almost every day. At first I bought nitrate free and all that, but got sick of looking for it.

The minimal amount of sugar doesn't seem to have affected me at all. Just stay away from the maple cured stuff.

You can always soak your bacon overnight in a pan of water in the fridge to remove a lot of the salt and sugar. That is what I do with it and then panfry as usual in a little unsalted butter,

If something says "flavored" or "maple" stay away from it. The Atkins page has a carb counter that says how many carbs bacon has. It's something under 1g, but if you eat a lot of bacon (or sausage like me), you'll want to count at least .5g per serving. No processed meat is ever 0g. I even count .5g if I get a burger patty from a fast food place (cause who knows what is in there?!).

I buy Gwaltney also. Low sodium and sugar free. I notice that more companies are making "NOT sugar cured" bacon. I use to only be able to find one brand but now I see 4 kinds. I think it's catching on.

I eat bacon too...At least 2-3 times per week...I like Costco's Ready Crisp (fully cooked). I zap it in the Microwave to finish cooking to my taste...It says on the package...7 fats, 0 Carbs and 6 protein...sodium is 350 mg...just remember to drink your water....This is nice because it keeps for months...3 pk to the carton...

I love me some bacon! I started eating turkey bacon lately. The first few times I noticed a slightly different taste, but now it tastes the same to me. It doen't shrink all to pieces either. So 2 slices is really 2 slices. It is lower in calories and has no carbs either.

You know what shocked me though, Dixie, about the turkey bacon? It's higher in sodium than regular bacon! At least the brand I found is and it was the only brand I could find. I got home and compared the labels and saw it was a good bit higher than the generic store brand from Market Basket.

There doesn't seem to be any carbs in the Market Basket Hickory Smoked. I think I'll just go ahead and stick with it after I finish up the turkey bacon.

I saw the pic of you and your girls. You're all a bunch of beautiful girls. That little one on the bottom left looks like she's about ready to give someone a piece of her mind. hahaha

LMBO.. yeah, She HATES pictures! She was NOT happy that day! THX for the compliment! I love my babies!
You know, I didn't even look at the sodium content... I just check mine and it has 180 mg in one slice! OMG, I am so glad you ponted that out! How much does your "real" bacon have in it. The kind I got before was also no carbs, but I was just worried about saturated fat.

One of the first things I had to remove from my WOE was bacon.....it won't let me lose any weight. Same thing with ham, bologna, hot dogs, ANY MEAT cured or processed.
