Question low carb snacks it there is such a thing?

Hi everyone I just started the forum today after browsing the web for info on the Atkins Diet.

I'm so impress with the support that you guys give each other and many of the questions I saw were questions I had myself.

On question I want an answer for that I could not seem to find was that of good low carb snacks.

Also I want everyone to know that I feel so encouraged and so excited all because of what I have seen in the forum.

Continue doing what you're doing
and thank you all.

Welcome aboard, mnfarrin. There is such a thing. Check out our snacks web page under recipes, and our recipes forum.

Hi Mnfarrin,

I like to eat nuts.

I make a cheesecake using cream cheese, splenda, whipping cream and eggs and I put it in a blender - or you can use lemon diet jello instead of splenda and then refrigerate it. Put a little cool whip on top. I even like it in its liquid form (sort of like a pudding w/a little cool whip on top).

I also like EAS cookies and cream bars, they have 2 carbs in them.

Unsweetened chocolate (grocery store). Melt it in a pan and add splenda. Pour into a rectangular container and refrigerate. Cut into bars.

They have a great toasted coconut bar with 3 carbs in it that I bought at the GNC the other day.

There are lots of snacks, you just have to get creative.

I remember once reading on a newsgroup message board that someone would take sugar free chocolate pudding and mix it with cream cheese. There was silence for a few hours, and then a flood of posts, most of them saying, "I thought everybody did that!!!" (I haven't tried it.)

I've bought the low carb bars, etc, and don't like them. If I can't have real chocolate, I don't want any at all! I do use peanut butter as a snack, though. The all natural is lowish carb, at least --and no sugar added. On Protein Power, one can have small amounts of fruit, and I'll spread peanut butter on apple slices. Or almond butter in celery.

Otherwise, it's salami, pepperoni -- perhaps not the best choices, because they have Stuff added, but they're not sweet. And cheese. Try cutting cheese in chunks and sticking it in the oven -- it melts and is delicious (butter the pan first!)

I'd also cook up chicken wings or chicken legs and hard boiled eggs to have them in the fridge so I can grab them.

There are dozens and dozens of prepared low carb snacks now -- check out Netrition, on this site, and dozens of other low carb stores. Cookies, candies, ice cream, etc. There are two philosophies on this -- either it's fine to eat substitutes; just count the carbs OR it's best to kick sweets and pseudosweets. You'll find what you can tolerate

Good luck!
