Make your own bbq sauce. That's what I do. I found a really great recipe for bbq chicken wings at the Atkins site and just kind of modified the sauce recipe for my tastes. Basically you start with sugar free ketchup as your base and go from there. Might want to check our Dana Carpender's books, too, or even our own recipe forum here.

Grilled meats, chicken and fish are all great just brushed with butter and some freshly cracked pepper over them. Mix up a marinade for veggies and grill your veggies either in one of those baskets or as veggies kabobs. Wow - you can do all kinds of great low carb things on a grill!

I just made BBQ ribs last night and have posted my sauce recipe in the recipes sections (see http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...144#post2112144 It is easy to make, doesn't require hunting down any special ingredients (I am in Hilo, Hawaii and low carb foods and condiments are still finding their way to our store shelves), and, if I calculated my carb content correctly, only 0.75g per tablespoon.

Dry rubs can provide a lot of a flavor for a few carbs as well. Be wary of pre-made dry rubs as many of them contain sugar, but if you do a recipe search you can probably find many recipes that either don't contain sugar or can be modified for low carb. Happy barbecuing!

Hi Sassylady, I think the idea making your own is a great bet! I have purchased a lot of the ones on the shelf and YUK is all I can say for the lot of them. The only one I have not tried is carb options but I think it would be easier to make my own. Hope this helps you some.

Talking Mmmm...barbeque....

Ever try the tin foil method? I shove all my herbs in there with 2 TBL butter then put my meat on top of it and wrap it all up in tin foil. Then toss it on the grill... I make tin foil pockets of cauliflower w/butter and they come out very nice and tender with a smokey grilled taste. It's sooooo yummy! Summer is my favorite season

I barbeque pretty much everything. One marinade I use is a sort of mexican flavored one. I use equal parts lemon, lime and soy sauce, throw in mexican spices and dried peppers and marinate my meat over night.

Sometimes I go buy the prepackaged marinades in the Asian section of the grocery store. The mongolian one is a favorite. It's got a couple carbs, but really, most of the marinade sits in the bag, so I think its pretty minor.

Lastly, search on Google for marinade recipes and use splenda instead of sugar.

if you want bbq sauce, you've got to try the Carb Options (either original flavour or hickory) before you dismiss all sugar-free/LC sauces. I've tried several of the sf ketchups and bbq sauces and the CO BBQ is excellent! I can't tell the difference! It's made by Lowry's. BTW, the One Carb heinz ketchup is excellent, too!

Happy Grilling!

Nicole

Hi

I don't usually have BBQ sauce on everything. Try herbs on chicken, butter and garlic on steak, shrimp, even veggie kabobs.

Enjoy!!

I grilled shish kebobs last night. Delish! You could marinate pork or chicken in BajaBob's SF Margarita Mix. Yummmmy!
