Default Sun Sensitivity???

Hi all -

It seems like lately I have a lot of questions. Thank you all for your help!

I do have one more.....this one seems weird to me....

Lately I seem to get headaches everytime I am outside in the sun. My eye can't handle the sun that well either. I have never had problems with the sun until after I started low carb.

Is anyone experiencing the same thing?

At first I thought, maybe I ate something that gave me a headache (like miscounted carbs or something else) but the last couple days I intentionally went outside in the fun for 15 minutes and got a headache. I came inside and after half an hour my headache was gone. After a while I went back outside and the same thing happened again.

I need to walk every day, so this sun thing is really annoying. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks,
Annett

My first guess would be that you're dehydrated. Have you tried drinking a couple of glasses of water before you go out?

Second guess: Some medications, like antibiotics, can make you sensitive to the sun. Lots of people report that low-carbing changes the way their medications affect them. Are you taking any medications?

I would guess it is pollen not the sun that is bothering you when you go outside.

I agree, it might be the pollen. I've been out all week with my daughter enjoying the sunshine. I've also been getting headaches, sneezing, and runny nose. I've had to take something for my allergies everyday. Our pollen index is VERY high right now. I washed my black SUV on Monday because it had turned yellow from the blanket of pollen on it. One day later, it was yellow again.

Also, the water was a good suggestion. Try hydrating your body well before going out into the sun. These hot days have boosted my water intake and I've been drinking at minimum 12 glasses a day.

I was diagnosed with photosensitivity (sun allergy) a few years ago. I do get headaches but the most dominant symptom is an itchy rash, mostly on my arms and legs, anywhere that was covered all winter and is now exposed to the sun. My doctor said it affects mostly women, usually in their 30s and 40s. Sunscreen doesn't really help (I still wear it). I've learned that very gradual exposure to the sun, starting in early spring, is the best option. By mid June my symptoms are usually gone.

Hello

That is interesting. I've had a rash for 5 years now and every doctor I have seen seens less than knowledgeable. All they did it look at it and told me to get some over the counter cream that doesn't work. I'll try to readup on that. I do know my rash gets worse in the sun.

I'll try drinking more water as other suggested.

I am not sure about the allergy thing as I never had allergie problems before. But who knows, maybe?

I would go see a doctor about all this for eversince my husbands hours got cut in half, they took the insurance too, so seeing a doctor and paying for it out of pocket is not an option right now.

thanks for the info all -
