Question LETTUCE, how do you mesure it?

How do you measure your lettuce? In Fitday it says 2 cups = 2.69 carbs, do you take away the fiber? And how much is 2 cups? Do you push the lettuce to fit inside the cup or just let the pieces of lettuce be?, because is almost nothing of lettuce for 3g of carbs, how can you guys make 2 salads a day?, do you have a stander way of knowing how much lettuce?.

To tell you the truth, I don't worry to much about lettuce. But yes, you do subtract the fiber from the total carb count. Now you see why I don't worry about it when I eat it.

I weigh it and think that 85 grams (3 oz ) it about two cups? But I would like to hear a consensus as well.

Well, I tear it into very, very small pieces, put it in the cup and push it down with a jackhammer. I find I can fit approx. 250 heads of lettuce into a cup this way.

Seriously, if you are not on induction, IMHO don't sweat it.

As much as I loved the jackhammer idea for lettuce, I personally don't think it makes much of a difference, induction or not, how much lettuce you consume. The Atkins carb handbook says that there's about 0.2 net carbs in 1/2 C. of iceburg, so even if you want to eat, say, 5 C. of lettuce, you're barely pushing 1g of carbs. Don't sweat the small stuff!

When I was on induction I would just put it in the cup and let it lay it wasn't much, but now I don't worry about it. Also some lettuce has less carbs per cup then other kinds. I usually don't eat lettuce now though. I make my salads out of baby greens or spinach which is yummy. I buy the earthbound farms organic spinach which says is 7 carbs per 3 cups but has 7 grams of fiber. It sounds too good to be true so I count it as 2 carbs. It makes alot of salad if you are worried about not eating enough and staying under your limit.

I chop it up and then stuff it in a cup. The book says to lightly pack the cup, which I take to mean I can stuff it down a bit. Fluffs up pretty nice into a good size bowl!

I don't count the lettuce - if you are on induction you should but I pretty much eat as much as I want and don't count it. I eat mostly Romaine and spinach though and those are mostly vitamins and fiber...

Now that I read back the question sounded so dull, but your ideas give me picture how much to stress… I made my dinner and just thought about the jackhammer and laugh… good to keep this site with humor !!!!, sometimes I get to strict, to formal, too preoccupy that I forget about having fun in the process…

I buy the hearts of romaine and will use an entire heart in my salad. I usually weigh it before I toss it in.

I measured for the first 2 weeks but now I just use the handful method. A loose handful for me is roughly a cup.
