Default what to use instead of butter

I was looking around for some kind of butter that has no transfats but was overwhelmed. What do SBeacher's use? edited to add: Is it OK to eat a piece of 100% whole wheat toast for breakfast? How about jellys? I have sugar-free stuff. Is that allowed?

It depends on what phase you are in, what is allwoed. The whole wheat toast can be ok. Make sure to read the ingredients and make sure it's not just white flour for the most part. With the jellies it would be better to get used to fruit again first, then try a small amount. These are both for phase 2 though, not phase 1.

For the butte rI use "I can't belive it's not butter" spray. For a more spreadable one the book recomends Smart Balance Spread. From what I understand it has no transfats.

When I did SBD, I used Smart Balance Light. It is trans fat free and tasty.

My husband's naturopath suggested he take 1 cup butter and mix it well with 1 cup of flax oil. (One of those stick hand blenders works great.) Keep it in the fridge and it is just like soft margarine. Very spreadable. Not so much trans fats and good for you.

I've also heard of mixing olive oil and butter.

I looked at the store yesterday. Whipped butter actually had less calories then Smart Balance. Of course I know the whoel point for many is avoiding saturated fats. For those who aren't worried about sat though whipped butter could be a good choice.

I was in the store today and I found "Smart Balance Light" It has less caloreis then both the butter or regular smart balance. I went ahead and grabbed some.

Hmm.. I'll have to try Smart Balance or maybe the half olive oil half butter. Right now I use both olive oil and butter but not much butter at all.

It took me like 4 months to use 1 stick of butter, and this is when I was on atkins. I mostly just cut a teeny bit to put on top of steamed veggies or add a bit to sauteed dishes to give it a little more browning. And really, I only add it when the food is very low fat like some non-oily fish or skinless chicken breasts.
