Hi everybody! I'm Karen, 32 years old, from PA. I've had some minor weight struggles my whole life but nothing ever like this. Since my 2nd son was born in January 2002, I've been stuck at this awful weight in spite of 2 solid years of low-fat, high-carb, food diaries, all kinds of exercise and weights, you name it.

To make a long story short, I stumbled onto the Atkins book while shopping at Barnes & Noble, and it was just the kick in the pants I needed to get started.

I am still breastfeeding my 2-year-old son, which is going to make this a challenge due to having to avoid induction for now. I plan on letting him self-wean, but I'd like to hopefully drop weight slowly and permanently while using the LC diet.

It is great to be here!

Hi and welcome!!
I am fairly new to this, too. Also from the east. I grew up in Ohio. My dad lives on the border of Ohio and PA. I am so excited for you and your wonderful low-carbing adventure ahead!

I breastfead all three of my children successfully on induction. As a matter of fact I had doctors doing studies on my breast milk because of the amount of fat in it. I did not have fat baby's but the breast milk had high amounts of protein and fat .The doctors were very supportive of the diet after they saw the effects it had on my breast milk. So maybe you should ask your doctor what he or she thinks.

Thanks so much everyone for the warm welcome. I'm definitely going to like it here!

Bindy, I have not gone as low as 20 g/carbs in a day, but already (ironically enough) my milk supply seems to have increased a bit. My doc and the La Leche League website are the ones who said to go a bit higher with the carbs than normal induction.

Pam, you are my neighbor! It's nice to know there are others around here on this diet, people look at me like I'm a freak for even attempting this.
