Question how do i eat flaxseed meal?

hi everyone,

i just bought a bag of flaxseed meal and i really don't know how to eat it . do i just eat it straight up?--->how does it taste? or do you guys have any suggestions as to what i can eat it with...

also, the label reads 4 grams of carbs per 2 tbsp...but the dietary fiber is 4 grams...so technically the net carbs on the serving size is actually ZERO right?

thanks in advance!

blue skies,

GG

Yes, it is "carb neutral". But it's also a good laxative so don't go overboard.

I love to eat it as hot cereal. Just put several tablespoonsful into a bowl and pour on boiling water. Let stand for a couple of minutes until the water is absorbed. I sprinkle on some salt and stir in.

Then top with what you like: cinnamon & Splenda. I love Brown Sugar Twin with heavy cream. Like breakfast at my grandparents' house when I was a kid.

You can use it in cooking. Muffins, add it to quiche mixes, scrambled eggs, omelets. Do check out our Recipe section. Do a search there for "flax AND meal"

You can mix it into a meatloaf instead of crackers, too!

Carb Neutral? I never heard of this! How great is that! I have a bag of flaxseed that I was trying to figure out what to do with - and so you're saying that I can have several tablespoons of a hot yummy something that nets out to zero carbs?

Falling over in bliss

Take some of the flax seed and grind it up in a coffee grinder or blender etc. Sprinkle the result on salads, fish, meat etc for extra flavor and fiber. Limit the ground stuff to a tablespoon a meal and make sure you drink your water as it absorbs fluids in the bowels.

Enjoy

Not quite. For some reason the actualy flax seeds still have about 1-2 carbs per tbsp. The flax meal is neutral, and has no carbs, not the seeds.

If the seeds have carbs, the flax meal has carbs. Just because they grind it and give it a new name doesn't make the carbs disapear.

I like making a hot cereal
2 tbsp flax seeds ground
2 tbsp unprocessed wheat bran
1 scoop designer whey

Yuo can also sprinkle it on salads for extra fiber, over yogurt or where ever. Keep it in the fridge so the omegas stay in and it stays fresh.

...do the same as a hot cereal but make it ice cold. I like it either way.

I count flax meal at 1 net carb per tablespoon.

I grind it up in my Barista Burr Grinder, put it in baggies and in the freezer. Then I sprinkle a couple of tablespoons on my morning omelette.
I also use it as part of my coating for chicken breasts. I soak the chicken in an egg & half & half mixture & ground flaxseed overnight. Then I coat it in ground flaxseed and shredded parmesan and bake it for about half an hour.
My wife likes it in her cereal although she isn't really a 100% low carber.
