Question Just curious....

Anyone else the baker in the family? I'm the one that makes the birthday cakes, the holiday cookies & any sugary treat that is requested. I have Easter & 3 birthdays coming up in April & I'm feeling tormented. This is something I have always been proud of & LOVE doing, but I am unsure if I can handle it. Normally I look forward to these occasions.
So far, I have been able to handle being around an awful lot of sugary crap (ice cream, cookies, pop tarts & dougnuts) from my dh & teenage dd, and I have not tasted any of the baby's pasta or cereal since I started (21 days). But the thought of baking & not tasting sounds like torture.
maybe I just need to let out my feelings of dread to others like me.

Thanks for reading

All I know is that what Dr. Atkins said is true - "One taste is the kiss of death to this way of eating." That is so true for me. Recently I was feeling pretty smug and I thought I'd eat a tortilla chip or two. Before you know it, I was cruising hot and heavy down the high carb highway. I had to go back to Induction, and now I'm fighting the cravings all over again. So my advice is, do whatever you have to do to keep from tasting, even if it involves putting tape over your mouth.

hi baygirl (love angelina, by the way)

as torturous as it may sound, i entertain a lot, but cook a lot of dinners for my boyfriend, family and friends all the time. i usually cook them what i'm craving or what i would normally "feel" like having if i wasn't LCing. i also bake a lot...especially on special occassions...i feel like the need for willpower is the ultimate challenge. that's why i do it. everyone in my life is very supportive and often don't want me to cook them a non LC meal, but i always do...because it's a test. i just always say, while i'm cooking "this is going to be soooo goood"...and then i'm over it. i don't think it'll be as hard as you think it would be. stay motivated!

good luck on your next baking venture!

blue skies,

Kimmy

I feel like the food has to be in the house. I can't avoid it all my life!

Baking Bday cakes is the worst for me as I love to taste the batter and frosting.

I see them eat many things, but my stuff I make I love to eat!

Try the old trick of brushing your teeth right before the baked goods come out of the oven. Nothing tastes good with the taste of toothpaste in your mouth. You could also chew sugar free gum or suck on a sugar free hard candy.

I'm much better at baking a cake or pie than I am at baking little bite-sized cookies and such where one can disappear without leaving evidence.

It gets easier. I like to make a lc cake FIRST, then the "forbidden cake of doom". I get my tasting out of my system on the low-carb stuff.
