Question How long does it take to kick your body out of ketosis?

I posted this under newbie's question's also - wasn't sure where to post it!

I am wondering if someone can tell me how long it takes for the wrong food choices to kick your body out of ketosis? For instance if I ate something too high carb today would I be out tomorrow?

NO - I'm not planning on loading up on carbs!!

I was just curious as I had chili last night for supper and know that I'm still in ketosis today. I watched my carbs all day because I knew I was having it for supper and it is more carbs than I usually eat at a meal.

Just curious - (even though I know what happened to the cat!)

If you know the answer to my question you can reply here or in my journal if you like.

Thanks for your help!

i think it takes about 24 hours for it to show up on the ketostix but if i eat too many carbs in a day (say like 100 or more) i notice the weight gain the very next morning.

hope this helps.

[FONT=Comic Sans MS] If you eat enough carbs to knock you out of ketosis it will happen right away. You may still have ketones in your urine for a few hours afterward, but they are just the remains from ketones created prior to your high carb eating. If it's the next day and your test stripes detect ketones then you are still in ketosis. I am 100% about this. COOL for you!!

It depends on the rate of carb absorption, too. If you chug a Pepsi, you'll be out of ketosis PDQ. Your chili, OTOH, was probably meat, vegetables and some beans, right? The carbs in beans are absorbed quite slowly, so that's probably why you got away with it.

I just made a pot of chili myself. I was working in a cold building all day and I wanted something to warm me up.

It depends on the amount of carbs the type of carbs.
It can attempt to "dump" the ketones out all at once, Or it can take up to 24 hours. Usually the fast weight gain is water.
