Thumbs up YAY for the deli at my local market!!

We have this wonderful gourmet supermarket up the street from where I work, and they have a great deli. I have always been able to find wonderful choices in the deli for this WOE such as roasted chicken breasts, or fire roasted veggies in olive oil. One thing I have always missed though is the wonderful made-to-order sandwiches. Well the other day I ran up to pick up lunch for myself and a friend, and while I was filling out her sandwhich what do I notice on the list? LOW CARB BREAD!! And, all natural nitrate free turkey!!! I asked them about it, and they said they were new to the menu. The bread is made there in the deli and is 3 carbs/slice. I ordered myself a turkey sandwich and it was FABULOUS! It's nice to have this alternative for when I get tired of the usual lunches

That sounds lovely!!

There is a NW local sandwich place (Big Town Hero, heard of it anyone?) that has recently started selling low carb sandwiches.. I finally tried one and oh man, its good!!.. The thing i enjoy is that its still sub sandwich bread. 10 carbs per sub, but sometimes its so worth it...

www.bigtownhero.com

personally i think its the best low carb bread i've had out there. I think i would really enjoy it EVEN if i was not on a LC WOL....

If anyone is in Oregon check them out.

The name of the market is PC Market of Choice (formerly Price Chopper for all you northwesterners ). I highly recommend the sandwhiches, they are awesome!

Heidi, I will have to go in search of a Big Town Hero now.. I love subs! I didn't know they had LC sandwiches. I think it's great that we are getting more options at these type of places now. Hope the trend continues!

I went to Big town hero at lunchtime today, after I read the earlier posting. I was looking forward to it too ...

When they told me that it costs $1.00 extra for the low carb bread, I walked out without ordering. My WOE is not an excuse to take advantage of me for a profit.

Shame on them. I wrote an email to the company president and told him what I thought of that ...

Wow, I'm feeling so spoiled by all the new low-carb stuff that's coming out, that now I want more and more! Two months ago I was thrilled that Subway had low-carb wraps. Now I'm dying for them to make low-carb buns! And I wish I could find a local deli like yours, relliot. That sounds fantastic!

Someone told me Schlotzky's had low-carb sandwiches. Anyone know if that's true?

Oh hey. im sucha dunce. I didn't even notice that you were from Eugene Relliott. Don't they have Big Town Hero's in Eugene? I know the originial one was founded in Corvallis (Go beavs!) But anyway..

yeah sucks about the dollar more thing...

I hate the whole money thing, but i tell myself I would rather be thin than save the dollar. I guess.. whatever.. I guess i mostly try not to think about it.

But i get the Low Carb Mini,($3.95) which at first i thought was really small... but once i ate it.. i found that its very filling, very hearty.. and the bread is good and filling. Then one day i got the 8 inch.. on low carb bread, probably has way to many carbs.. but i was soooo full all day and just felt kinda crappy. So I have come to realize that the mini is perfect size. More filling than the Subway low carb wrap... i enjoy it much more.
