I really doubt you would go into ketosis on this plan, esp. after P1 as you add good carbs that would not keep you in ketosis. Some have trouble staying in ketosis on Atkins and they only are eating 20 carbs or so.On this, you add more carbs in the grains, fruits, or other vegetables like beans. So,IMHO there is no way one would stay in ketosis.

Hope this helps,
Linda

Thanks for all of your insight!

I am not doing SBD officially (although my plan is similar to P2) but I really like the program and occassionally use recipes from the book.

pstar, just another person chiming in to say thanks for your great post. Lots of encouragement in your words. I especially like the simplicity with which you summed it all up. Just eat smart--and well and eventually it'll come off!

Someone asked about Ketosis, Here is what I have learned.

I was on Atkins back in December; I have since switched to South Beach Diet (SBD).

I had some blood work done back on the 7th of Feb. The nurse from the doctor’s office called me on Friday, to tell me I was in Ketosis…… and to please get off the Atkins diet till after my surgery this week. HHHmmmm Hello I’m not on Atkins, I’m on SBD.

So in my case YES... I was in Ketosis on SBD.

My $0.02 on ketosis ... I have been doing SB Phase II for almost six weeks, and I typically register moderate to trace on the testing strips.

I eat 3-4 cups of vegetables per day, fruit (1-2 times per week), low carb bread and tortillas (1-2 times per week), some dairy (1-2 times per week) and oatmeal (1 time per week).

The key is that I exercise quite a bit during the week: 40 minutes x 5 days, plus 90 minutes x 1 day. At least for me, thats enough to burn the carbs from my diet and keep me in slight ketosis.

Dr. A (the SBD one) does not recommend Ketosis at all - but I think I went into Ketosis at times on SBD when I tried to be very strict. It just felt like that - and I was extremely sensitive to alcohol.

Thanks for bumping this, Judynyc. I enjoyed reading that summary of SBD. I've just joined this forum and was on the fence of whether to go the Atkins route or South Beach. I was leaning toward South Beach, but I was feeling a little lost as it wasn't specific regarding food portions. I think I'll use the sample menus as my guide and just go for it. I know the SB diet will be better than the diet I was eating that got me to this point!
