Question Could hard water slow weight loss?

The water in our home is extremely hard. It's so hard that when we had it tested for hardness, it was off the charts. I know, really gross, but I called the city and there's nothing we can do except buy a water softener (but with our crazy plumbing it's soooo expensive). So we have to deal with our hard water. If I'm home, I drink water from the filtered refrigerator water. It does not get rid of the minerals that cause the hardness, just bad bacteria. I have noticed that when I drink this water, I lose less weight. This entire week I've been working from home, and haven't lost anything. Yesterday I was out all day and drank bottled water, and this morning I lost weight.

Do you think there's a correlation?
Thanks!
Bonnie

Could it just be a matter of you are drinking more water while at home?

Interesting question. I also have hard water, but I choose not to drink it because I don't care for the taste.

I don't see why the hard water would affect you - usually it has things like calcium, lime and iron in it. Calcium probably helps you lose weight, but I'm not sure about lime.

By the way, my water is also "off the chart". I installed a water softener but that only cuts back on the build-up in my appliances and faucets. I have to pretty much just use elbow-grease to clean anything and get rid of the water stains. It's horrible. The water softener helps some, but doesn't come near doing a good job. I don't drink the water out of my softener because of the salt content. I just buy bottled.

Could it be that rather than the water, you are more sedentary when you are at home?

I've never heard anything on the hard water being a weight loss stopper but some of the things that Atkin's sited in his book as stallers just floored me and turned out to be the case for me.
I vote that anything is possible!
