Unhappy Confused

Hi,

I've started the Atkins Induction Phase today. (Big Step for me) Friends have told me as long as a I stay under 20 carbs per day, I'm ok. (I've read the induction phase portion of the Atkins New Diet Revolution)

My question is can I have two Atkins shakes-one in the morning and one at lunch then have beef at dinner. Ex. Hamburger patty with cheese.

This morning I woke up and said I need to stop this and get in shape.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The answer to the shakes is no. And I will tell you why. First off you want to do a clean induction, which means no "frankenfood" such as shake and bars. Stick to the real foods! This is a time for your body to clean out and switch over to burning fats.

And the second, I get the feeling you are looking to use these shakes as a meal replacement, kinda like a slimfast deal. If this is the case that will lead you to two problems. 1) Boy will you be hungry. 2) You will not get enought calories in to support you body, meaning you body will go into starvation mode and you will hold onto you weight!

Keep it simple, don't forget you eat your veggies (very improtant) and drink you water!!!!! Don't worry about what "friends" tell you. When in dought read the book.

My last bit of advice, eat.... you are going to be fighting craving for a while, alone with feel icky due to carb withdrawl. One way to fight the craving is eating a lot of the food you can eat so you are full. Its harder to want that "treat" when you are full.

Good luck! It will take a little time to get use to, but soon it will seem like the easiest thing you have ever done!

Thanks! Can I ask about how many lbs or dress size did you lose the first month?

Whoops, forgot to add (and I am sure someone would pick up on it) the shakes and bars have a tendery to stall some people. Which is something no on wants.

I think Mary said it all. But, most importantly....EAT! 2 shakes a day and then a burger at night is definately not enough food, or fiber. You'll never go to the bathroom eating like that! Eat bacon and eggs for breakfast, have a salad for lunch, eat lots of veggies. There's no reason to ever be hungry eating this way. Good luck.
