Default Calcuim Screening

Has anyone had any experience with calcuim screening? It is a quick and simple test for plaque in the coronary arteries. How accurate is it? If the test does what it claims, why isn't it covered by insurance? I would like to have it done but it is costly - about $400.

Default Calcium screening

Hi Howe:
I had Calcium Screening in September. It was really easy (don't even have to undress) and the results came back very quickly. It was very positive for me, as I have an alarmingly high CRP (C-Reactive Protein, the new, hot risk factor) level. You want to get a score of ZERO, no calcium. The calcium is found in the blockages in the coronary arteries. No calcium, no blockages. It was not covered by insurance, but I decided to have the test as the results would have an effect on my treatment options.
Good luck-
E

You might want to check healthcheckusa.com

They offer deals on testing, but I'm not sure if the calcium testing is offered. Wouldn't hurt to look, though!
