Default Colorado Legislature trying to legislate food choices

http://www.leg.state.co.us/Clics200...te?openFrameset

Colorado Senate Bill 04-103, titled "School Vending Machines And Nutrition", is intended to help school children eat healthier. While the intent may be good, the law is anti-fat and pro-carbs. The bill punishes schools for having vending machine food that is over 35% fat by calorie (or more than 10% saturated fat), and allows an electyolyte replacement beverage that contains forty-two grams or fewer of additional sweetener per twenty-ounce serving. So cheese is not allowed but Gatorade is. Also allowed are foods with up to 35% of their weight in sugar!

The whole bill is at the site listed above. It has passed the initial vote (6 to 1) and is progressing. I urge all Colorado citizens to contact their state senator and representive and let them know that this bill is totally misguided and must be stopped.

Its good that they are trying but so sad that they are so misguided and just feeding kids more sugar.

The scary part is that Peanuts [probably the ONLY healthy food in most vending machines] will have to go under this rule...while Baked Doritos, Baked Lays, Pretzels, Jello Pudding, and Popcorn get to stay. Most candies around 50% Sugar by weight, so they wouldn't be allowed.
