not diabetic, but...
Hi, I don't post much, but lurk a lot and learn a lot...
I know I have insulin issues and my brother is diabetic, and insulin sensitivity runs in the family as well. I know that without low-carb i'd be on my way to diabetes and high blood pressure soon enough.
The reason I'm writing is that I've tried a few other low-carb diets (Swarzbein, Atkins, etc.), but realize that CAD works best for me, BUT with net carbs under 60 (I lift weights and am fairly active in general). I believe that if you are quite insulin sensitive (or diabetic, for that matter), and your Reward Meal is really high carb, you may get an insulin spike - this is what happens to me, and it causes cravings too, despite perfect CMs. So, in the past month or two I have lowered my net carbs and increased my fat intake a la atkins - still sticking with the CM foods at CMs but consciously keeping carbs low at RM. This seems to work really well for me and I don't want to eat and eat and eat at RM.
So, yeah, no sugary desserts or white bread at RM for me, but that's okay because I'm feeling so much better. Low-glycemic fruits, lentils, flax-oatmeal, stevia, coconut and sometimes high-fibre breads work much better to satisfy my sweet tooth and not skyrocket my blood sugar. Just an idea for Picaboo.
