Default Carb vs. "Net Carb"

I have a question in regard to carb vs. Net carbs.

I am unable to find an FDA reference to "Net Carbs" and while I understand that some diets classify carbs minus fiber as "Net Carbs" in my dog-eared pages of New Diet Revolution (circa 1993), Dr. Atkins never said anything about eating "net carbs".

Also, in doing research, I'm running across these types of links : http://www.betafoods.com/howtobuy.htm , in addition to petitions being submitted to the FDA dictating that "Net Carbs" shouldn't be FDA approved.

Thoughts, comments, advice?

Personally I have never had a problem with the "net carbs" and I take away fiber AND sugar alcohols.

Funny thing about the FDA...seems they allow parts of "downed" cows to be used as feed for the livestock we eat and have yet to approve of fiber coming off a net carb count. I will not go farther with an explanation of what downed cows are...just that I think it is unique that some of the food coloring agents they approve and other things they have done makes me pay more attention to what I know is good for me than what THEY say is good for me.

"downed cows" needs no explanation. My main concern is when I see a "net carb" rating that actually has well in excess of 20g of carbs. I'm just not sure what to believe considering the huge differences in opinion.

Very well said MisterE!!

I also only use net carbs and I'm doing great with the weight loss.
