Supposedly it's safe to eat fried chicken if you take off the breading. In practice, it can be a little hard to remove the skin completely, and when I tried it once, I put on a couple pounds (must have pushed me over my carb limit). I guess the thing to do is try it for one day...if it poses a problem, then forget about it, but if it doesn't, then that's one more thing you can eat.

If you put on weight immediately when you try it, aalley, it probably is water retention. Most fast food fried chicken is brined (soaked in a salty liquid) before cooking to make it juicy, so it's probably pretty high in salt. As pd Rydia said, of course, if you put on weight/stop losing over several days afterward, then it threw you out of ketosis.

I've never had any problem with it, personally, other than pulling the skin off is a big pain.

I think I recall Atkin's saying if you are TRULY in a pinch, you can have it but most is still fried in HYDROGENATED oils which are a serious no-no (I think he says the hydrogenated can put you in a stall - the body is confused about this WEIRD oil and is busy trying to do something with it).

I made the mistake of ordering crispy chicken strips from wendy's thinking it wouldn't be too bad if I knocked off the outside. Well that wasn't easy to do, but I figured it's such a thin skin - how many carbs can it have???

I got home and checked on the wendy's website and it was 33

Be careful and make sure you really do knock it off if you're still on induction.

I just got a yucky thought. I have been giving my left overs to my 4 year old son when I get home from work. example: MCD's double cheeseburger and give him the buns or taco bell and give him the tortilla to snack on. I can picture me coming home and saying, "look what Daddy brought you, a bag of chicken skin!" Yuck

I've eaten the Fried Chicken b4 and took off all the crumbs, I rather pound the hell out of pork rines and fry my own chicken breast tenders. I've also done fresh Cat Fish. Seasoned both really well with a dry cajun seasoning. YUMMY!!!!!!!!

When you take the skin off, it is no longer worth eating. That is the best part. I dont eat it anymore due to the partially hydrogenated oil it is cooked in. This horrible stuff probably wont stall you, but it is doing horrible things to your body and brain.
