Question Question about Silpat baking sheet

I have just purchased a Silpat baking sheet and it had no instructions with it.
It is just a straight baking sheet (not molded for muffins or anything) with no built up edge, and I'm wondering if I can put this right on my oven racks, or should I put it on top of a regular (aluminum) baking sheet.

Any help on this much appreciated.

Put it on top of your baking sheet. It's not stiff enough to hold anything and you don't want whatever it is that you're baking to go flying off when you remove the sheet from the oven or before you put it in the oven.

I just picked up a couple on sale - $19.98 each (reduced from $49.99). I was delighted to find them.

Will save on the parchment paper budget

Karen;

Thanks for your prompt reply. Guess I should have figured that out myself - duh! Only now I'll have to go out and buy a baking sheet that the Silpat will fit on. The ones I have are too small. Ah welll, just another way to spend money.

cmcole;

Great deal. Might I ask where you got them on sale? If it was a chain store or franchise, I might be able to get them here in the Okanagan.

Thanks,

Lorraine

Try a restaurant supply store. The fit perfectly on what's called a 1/2 size sheet or bun pan. They have a rim and are fantastic for all sorts of things. I cook large roasts, chickens and roast vegetables on these pans. They're heavy duty and will last for years. A company called Chicago Metallica makes them too and kitchenware stores carry them.

Hi Karen,

I adore my mats, Great for baking. I never thought of checking with a commercial Kitchen supplies. I like the idea with the rim. My mats don't quite fit my cooking sheets. So having a rim would be great for things that would drip.
I live in Northern California, I only paid $20.00 for each. This was at Kitchen N Bath. Regular price.
