Question Nursing and LC

I have a 4 month old that I'm nursing. I want to go back to LC because I know I'm addicted to carbs, and I know LCing works.
What I'm curious about is whether I should or not.
I was doing CAD, but in their book they say not to do it if your pregnant or nursing. I've been pregnant and nursing for the last 2 years.(I also have a 19 month old).
I've lost my pregnancy weight, but I have a long way to go. My thought is that I eat way healthier on this WOE than if I don't. I find that if I don't have the restrictions I have no control. If I'm following a plan (I want to try PP)then I'm at least having salads regularly and cutting out junk food(my biggest downfall!!!)
I'm also having a heck of a time getting started again. Carb addiction is such a wicked thing!
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
Diane

I'm not really sure why it's not recommended for nursing mothers, but an alternative might be to do a modified program. Eat healthy stuff just like a regular low-carb program, just maybe a few more carbs than usually allowed. I guess the baby needs sugar from the milk, only thing I can think of.

It would be great if you could find a low-carb friendly doctor to consult. I wish they'd post that information right beside their office hours in the yellow pages.

Hello! I nursed my son for 2yrs. I'm not a Dr. and don't pretend to play one on the web but, I believe if you keep your water up ( one of the most important things in nursing, as I am sure you know), take your vitamins, and get in your calcium with either plain yogurt and/or cheese, you will be fine. Just make sure you are eating enough. Check to see what the calorie intake should be for a nursing mother (if you don't already know) and keep it there. Keep eating healthy carbs. Just stay away from the white flour, sugars, rice, and potatoes. They really have no nutritional value that you can't get from other foods. (Except for the sugar, bad sugar!!!)
Hope this helps!

Diane, heres a link to a former discussion on LC and Pregnancy. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...=&threadid=3840 It should answer most of your questions. You can used the search button at the top right of the page if there are particular questions you have
