Default sushi anyone?

Does anyone else on here like to eat sushi? I know its mostly fish which is very low carb, but they do come wrapped in white rice. I wonder how many carbs eat piece contains? I eat many pieces when i do eat it, but it never seems to cause me a problem. Anyone else eat sushi?

I miss Maki rolls And Kushi Katsu (deep fried Seitan with yummy sauce). I haven't had ANY in months. I'm thinking in a small Maki there must be at least a half cup of rice. Hmmmm, I'll have to do some research on this, you got me cravng it now

Get shashimi instead. That's the fish with no rice.

The sushi plates I saw in the store (they had about 8 rolls, 2 of each kind) were 75g carbs.

According to fitday, 1 piece of sushi with veggies and fish is around 7g net.

You can make kushi katsu at home. Seitan is wheat gluten, so cut it into pieces, skewer it and roll it in mayonnaise. Then dip it in a mixture of ground almonds and pork rinds and fry. For the sauce, mix LC ketchup, Worcestershire and soy sauce together.

Thanks,
Alli

The ginger has sugar, but it's just 1g carb for each piece. That's not ot bad as long as you have just a fwe pieces. I have some in my fridge I bought for when I make shashimi becaus eI love the stuff to. I need more fun recipes though. The only I've tried is slicing the fish thin then pouring very hot oil over it to sear.

I did try a kind of mock sushi before. I took and fried grated cauliflower with a little splenda sweetened rice vinigar. It couldn't be made into rolls, so I just served it with the shashimi on top. It tasted good though and fixed the craving.

ALL sushi does not contain rice. I went to an authentic Japanese restaurant last night and we had a huge platter os sushi appetizers. Only one of them was made with rice. My favorite is the egg omelet sushi (tamangoyaki) which is just made of eggs with a strip of nori around it. Also I liked the eel one which was just eel and nori. You might also ask for Jewel-Box shushi which just has the ingredients without the rice in a little dish. I also make my own sushi. I have also heard of people using cauliflower to replace the rice. They put the cauliflower through a seive or ricer.
I haven't tried that yet.

Actually sushi is literally translated as sweet rice. The rice is the sushi part. Sashimi is the fish with no rice. There are many other very good japanese foods which can be included in a meal with sushi though

I make my own version of sushi. I take Nori wrappers and spread cream cheese mixed with a bit of wasabi and then place smoked salmon on top. Then I make straw length slices of cucumber and place in middle and roll it up. Then I slice it into 1" size pcs.

I think one could add some of the sticky sushi rice to cooked shredded cauli and then smear only a small amount of it on the nori, using more of the veg and fish filling than in traditional sushi...that way it probably would taste exactly the same, but with about 2/3 less carbs...hmmm, might try this myself!!

Another idea is to use barley, which has a much lower GI than rice, and say do it 50-50, again using a smaller quantity in the sushi..
