Does anyone have anything new to report on how they like this version? Worth purchasing? I noticed something online about how Fitday PC can be set to subtract fiber from carbs????

Bawdy Wench I have a question for you, if you don't mind. (BTW did you notice your last post on this thread is in white font for some reason)

With the downloaded fitday - can you enter a recipe as a recipe with quantities (1 cup of this + 1 cup of that - all in one) or do you still have to make it by entering all the ingredients in the recipe on an empty day - then entering the totals as a new custom item - . I have a program that lets you do recipes but it's really old and even more cumbersome that Fitday as the quantities are strange - like flour is 1lb - imagine the math to figure out what fraction of 1LB 1 tsp would be!!!

Oops! No, I didn't know my last response went in as white. I'll go back and fix that in a second.

Yes, you can enter the ingredients with measurements. Here's basically how you do it.
  1. Click the Custom tab in the Find a Food section of the window.
  2. Click New Custom. A new window opens (to the left of the Find a Food section) and includes space for you to enter the recipe name and total amount that it makes (like 12 cups), and tabs below. The default tab will list the total nutritional counts.
  3. First, type in the name of the recipe.
  4. Type the amount (like 12) and the measurement (like cups). This is tricky. If you type the amount 1, that means when you enter this food in your daily food log and you have 1/4 of the entire recipe, you'll have to enter it as .25. I made a cauliflower/broccoli recipe the other day and found it worked best when I entered it as 12 cups. Then, I just needed to enter 1 cup (or however much I had) in my daily log and not have to worry about fractions.
  5. Now click the Ingredients tab.
  6. Put your cursor in the Food Name column, and then drag over the desired food item from the Find a Food section. Modify the amounts as necessary.
  7. Keep doing this until you've entered in all the ingredients.
  8. Click Save, and you're done. Your recipe will appear in the Find a Food section under the Custom tab.
The Help feature is quite good, and can guide you through anything you want to do.

Hope this helps!

Soooooo? Are you going to order it?

I gotta say, it's a nice piece of software. I like the overview screen.

Did you look at the screen shots that were included in the product summary? Did you take the tour? That will tell you a lot right there.

I haven't taken the tour - but will now - because I really want to be able to enter recipies and know the nutrient content - am seriously considering buying it just for that- will decide after the tour. I guess the 20.00 will translate to something like 30.00 Canadian - but it's something I use everyday and I love toys for my computer

But of course you can do that!

Just pay $20 for the download, download it to your computer, and then burn it onto a CD or copy it to a floppy. Then you can use that copy to install the program on one more computer. The license agreement says you can install it on 2 computers as long as they will both be used by the same person. So, I have it installed on my home PC and also on my work PC so I can use it and refer to it in both places.

I haven't researched this yet, but apparently you can do a save off one system, copy it onto a disk, and then load it on the next system. That way you can keep track during the day at work, and then bring the disk home that night and load it in again.

Don't quote me on that one, though. I haven't done it yet.

I would suggest burning it anyway - just in case your ever have to format your machine - I burn backup copies of everything - but then again I am a bit insecure = nutcase

Dark Lotus - you were wise to check that, because there are SOME things that wouldn't work to re-install off a burned cd - I get really P'd at Maxis games - I have all the Sims - and a burned copy won't work (no matter what tricks are tried) I figure that when I pay 50.00 some bucks for a game I should be able to burn a back up copy in case the original cd is damaged. I would test the cd you make just to make sure you get the total install file - better safe than sorry.

I downloaded fitday- Yep I paid $20 for it and oh is it worth it! Not only are the food lists much more extensive, its a snap to customize foods and put in a recipe such as my breakfast quiche. But in addition there is a mood diary as well as even more selection for exercises... did you know grocery shopping for a hour burns over 300 calories? The Overview gives you your recent weight losses oh it even records measurements! I highly recommend it.

Hrmm.. I wonder if this software could be run from USB flashdrive. If not, I bet you could change the INIs or registry so that it loads and saves the files directly from the flashdrive. This would be much more convenient than emailing or writing the database to CD.

Hrmmm.. maybe I need to drop them an email.

Unhappy Problem for Canadians

I just tried ordering it but the automated form has no option for Country/Province - I emailed the sales and also reported it as a bug so hope to hear that this will be fixed so Canadians (and other Countries) can order this. I'm convinced - from what I've read here and also from another forum member who has purchased this - and she works in software and is very happy with it now.
