Question Turnip - Rutabaga question

The other night we went to my mom's for dinner. She said she cooked turnips. So, I figured I could have about a half cup and I did. Later I went to look them up on the carb counter and she said "just put in rutabaga". There was a MAJOR difference in points there! SO, are the rutabagas the BIG round ones or are they the ones about the size of an onion? Mom says she made the big ones.
Thanks,
Alli

Well, you can get big turnips, but they don't taste that good. They get bitter and should be eaten smaller, so that's how they normally sell them. The ones that are quite large and covered in wax are rutabagas. My guess is that's what you had.

Hi Alli,

This thread has pictures of rutabagas and turnips. Both of them can be big or small.
