Question Help! Homemade yogurt?...

I have a yogurt maker and would love to make some homemade yogurt to incorporate some back into my diet.

My question is.... is the carb count for the finished product the same as the ingredients you use to make it???

Ex: if I use 1 quart of half and half (42 carbs) and just a Tbs of starter, will my final batch of yogurt have 42ish carbs?

OR

Ex: if I use 1 quart of Lo-carb milk (12 carbs) and just a Tbs of starter, will my final batch of yogurt have 12-ish carbs?

I apologize if this sounds like a *dumb* question, but I'm unsure about when you process the yogurt, if the carb count is altered at all.

TIA!

Hi Becki,

I'm afraid you'll have to count pretty much all the carbs you use. Many people (including me) thought that most of the sugars in yoghurt were "eaten" by the culture.
It turns out that that is not true.

Check this thread from Doreen - The Truth About Carbs in Yoghurt - for more info.
