Default hiking and fatloss

I posted this in the exercise section and didn't get any responses, so I thought I would try it over here.

I hike Sat and Sun about 5 miles each day. I do it because I love hiking but would like to make it fat burning as well.

I tried eating a high fat meal an hour before I hiked and took 1000mg L-Carn. It was the first time I've ever gotten hungry on a hike. It that a good sign? Also what is the best meal/ supplements to take in this case.

(I can't take stimulants I have a heart murmur).

thanks

Heck, hiking IS fat burning.
Do you set a steady pace, or vary it? Is it flat or hilly? Do you stop and rest? Drink much water?
All of this affects it.

I hike a little, daily. The problem is that it isn't a sustained aerobic activity. Therefore it is hard to keep the heart rate up when you are hiking down. Up isn't a problem!

The strengthening and endurance you get from hiking, as well as the calories burned is well worth the push to keep it up.

I don't know anything about the technical where-to-fores of hiking/fat burning...sorry...

I hope someone else can give you more information.

Keep up the good work.

Karen

Ive been confused myself. I am an avid hiker, but got nervous doing 5000 footers without eating carbs. I havent tried it yet. Good question. I am interested to see what I should be doing.

Thanks for your responses.

I'm recovering from a back injury and I'm practice hiking to build up my endurance again before I get into the mountain trails. After 5 miles I'm really tired. It takes about 75 min with stretching at the beginning and end and is fairly flat with one big hill. I usually go pretty fast for 4 miles then drag the last mile. I don't eat or drink anything while I'm hiking since it is pretty fast.

I wanted to know is there a particular way of eating for endurance activities that will maximize fat burning, like the body for life people doing cardio on an empty stomach.
